What are you gonna do with it? In His Word 4-13-2026
Sometimes we don’t know where to start when we need to study the Bible. We get all confused with the fact that we need to study it and then there is the how and why. We get caught up in our feelings of ‘not enough’ or ‘poor me I never learned how to do this’ and skip it all together.
I think sometimes we even sit in church wondering why we are listening to this person teach us when we don’t now what to do with it.
I want you to know today that there is definitely a reason God has given you the words you read today, you heart in church yesterday or on the radio. God has a plan for your life and He is trying to get you to pay attention!
So what can you do to start? Look it up!
If you are following my studies on You Tube you are finding that there are a ton of helps to get us able to study the Word of God without too much difficulty in the Book itself!
We start with prayer, asking God what we need to read today. Maybe you want to start in Genesis, maybe another spot that sparked your interest in church yesterday etc. Maybe there is something you always wondered about. Either way looking in the Word will help you to know the Word. Keeping it sitting on the shelf or table will not help! Just don’t give up! You can do it!
These scriptures below stood out to me this week in my notebook. I was looking for a different set of words but these ones were set up for another blog post I did and it got me thinking.
So I posted the verses below. Keep reading!
Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:2-9
The people in the beginning of these verses were quarreling and Paul, the author here, wanted them to get along. He tried to help them not be anxious about things but instead keep their minds on God and His Word.
He did not tell them just to stop there! Sure, we are to meditate on the Word of God day and night, in times of quiet and sometimes in the middle of the day when we are busy a verse will come to us, but when we do keep our mind on the Word calm will come in the midst of stress and turmoil! It may not make sence, but it wil happen, trust me! (*Check out the story of my son John’s birth in former blogs.)
We have to put our faith in God to do this, (Isaiah 26:3) but we can trust Him to guide our study and our lives both!
God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan. Ephesians 1:9-11
Okay have I given you some areas to read today? What are you going to do? Go read the rest of those chapters and see where they came from. Where was Paul writing from and where the letters he was writing were sent? Why did he write what he did? We can learn so much from just the portions I posted but I am telling you I did not post the full chapters for a reason. I want to give you an appetizer! I want you to wonder what else was happening in these chapters that lead to this and how can you use it in your life?
Cause that is what we do when we pray, read, apply, repeat!
Check out all the verses mentioned but open up the full on chapter too! If you have a study bible look at the notes attached, if you are reading in a Bible Ap click to see whats connected, verses or notes are helpful to learn how to help you apply things to your life that you read. Then Pray about it, more precisely
So, for instance, as we study this above we see that Paul wanted them to remember not to stress, but to give thanks to God. Okay, right now think, then write them down or speak them aloud, 3 -5 things you are thankful for, that you could call a blessing! When you do this you are taking your mind off your stress.
In Ephesians 1:9-10 we can read about how God will bring everything into order in our lives when we keep our mind on Him and His Word too!
So take note on what things are out of control that you can control and that are out of your control. Again, I have both video and blog on these things so you can search the blogs on the lower left for the topics if it helps!
Once you know that you believe the Word, then you can find out so much more, but sometimes you have to read through the whole Bible to make up your mind, and sometimes a small portion can bring you to a bigger chapter of information. Now go check it out!
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your Word, for the guidance we receive through the Holy Spirit dwelling with us, and for all the great advice and guidance you give us through other people’s lives as we read them in our Bible verses. Help us apply what we read, and learn what we apply, in Jesus name.
