How do I know? in His Word 3-23-2026

How do  I know that I am saved? How do I know that I am following Jesus? How do I know what He wants me to know when I read my bible?

1. I trust that God is real, and believe that He sent His Son, whom we know as Jesus the Christ, to be our Savior, and Lord. We believe this and so we read the Word of God, our Bibles and learn what God wants from us. If salvation is free then what does God want in return? Nothing. But seriously we can't help but loving Him for all He has done for us! Now as we read the Word we find that God really does want our love, but He gives it to us freely, and so we freely give it back. He gives us directions for life and guidance for where to walk, live, and why. Today we are focusing on the first message. I

In the Bible, according to the NLT version there are 149 instances of the statement 'this is the message...'

Some of them tell of bad things that would happen because of their lives not living proper to the Word from God;, some good, but mostly they are from the Lord God to His people.

Now we as Christians are also His people and so we can read through this list and find interesting knowledge, some that we can apply to our lives and some that we cannot really relate to our own life story but we can glean wisdom from the things the people then, at that place had to go through.

How do you know that you are a Christian? Let's look at the messages in 1 John chapters, 1,2,and 3. Through them we will find what the message we need to know is and with these verses we can find the answer to so many questions about our salvation and our place in the family of God. I have highlighted some of the verses here but as always read the rest of the chapters and see for yourself the main points and how to apply them to your life.

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.  This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.  We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.  But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.1 John 1:1-10

Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.1 John 2:6-8

So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers  does not belong to God. This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.1 John 3:10-11

We love ne another because He first loved us, because He is love.

It was also the first commandment. Jesus tells us right here!

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’Matthew 22:37-39

So back to the beginning, I started with this ...

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.  But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:7-8

How do I know that I am a Christian, God knows. He knows that I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior and Lord, and that I believe that God loves me because He is God, I can love Him back!

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 1 John 4:9

Trust God, Pray, Read, Apply the Word to your life today! Then repeat it tomorrow!
