When we say' pray the Word' it doesn't just mean that we are to quote the verses Jesus taught us to pray but also to take the Psalmists words to heart and pray those. Like David's when he said "Hear my cry O' Lord attend to my prayers..." but to also know we can pray those words when we are overwhelmed with need for his comfort, healing, or protection; we can find the words to say when we read the psalmists pleas. We can thank God for being there, and for giving us the things to pray in His Word too!
O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for You are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Psalm 61:1-3 (nlt version)
He gave us a perfect place to glean from and learn how to pray daily as we read. If you need a way to get inspired with how to pray check out Hebrews 4.
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” Matthew 26:41 as Jesus prayed on the night He was betrayed. His heart was also over whelmed and He knew He had to try to find another way, yet was willing to allow the Father to direct the path. He accepted the answer as it came.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testing we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:12-16
What ever you need when you pray you can find a scripture to help focus how to pray if you do a search, in New Living Translation I found 436 verses with the word 'pray'. You could read one a day for a year and still have left overs! But, for today let's focus on the one above here.
Heavenly Father, thank you that we may come boldly before your throne in Jesus' name and make our requests be known to You trusting that You will not only hear but also answer in Your time, Your place, in Your way that is above all ways. That we may bring Your power and might to the result of our prayers even if its not how we figured you would answer it. Help us to accept the answers and walk in Your Truth, in Jesus' name...
