Day 28 Advent count down and beyond! In His Word 12-28-2023
Help a person out?
Sometimes this week of the year gets forgotten. We are so busy with left
overs from Christmas, spending time visiting, or hanging out with friends and
family but we really can find ourselves avoiding the inevitable. Someone is
still doing the work of setting up, or setting out food, cleaning up after us,
or planning the next outing. Let’s take a moment today to look around and find
out who may need our help.
Sure usually we think of helping the needy as what this is
about, but if you read the chapter it also mentions helping the preachers and
teachers as well! Those who help us, are the ones who often need help
themselves. Its important to not let a brother or sister get ’burned out’ from
the ministry they are working in. It can be overwhelming trying to get it all
done and finding help can be difficult if not impossible at times. If you volunteer
or if you are paid for work done, either way it can be a burden if you are not
looking at it as unto the Lord. So what does that mean? It means the ministry
or job is done to the best of your ability. The thing is sometimes we take on
what we are not gifted in, or not called to do just because there is a need.
Now this is good for a time but I suggest praying if it becomes hard to find
peace, joy or like you belong there. Seek Him first before joining a team that
may bring you distress instead of you being a blessing. That said, we are to
share one another’s burdens, so share yours!
If your ministry is getting tough share that with others so they can
help you to make it work! Most of all remember its not about you doing it all,
its about God’s work getting done with those He calls to do the work.
Years ago, someone told me that we do not have to try to do
it all! I had been trying to get to everything, do as much as I could and it
drained me a bit more than I realized until I heard those wise words!
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of
Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only
fooling yourself. You are not that important. Pay careful attention to your own
work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t
need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our
own conduct. Galatians 6:2-5
It is not about me trying to get it all done, it is about us
working together for the good of the Lord, and His kingdom! In Jesus’ name
