Day 18 ~ Advent Countdown-In His Word  12-18-2023

Try remembering this section of Luke 14 this year as your friends and relatives decide they cannot come to your dinners. Jesus was teaching about not making  our parties and events about getting other invites or puffy people up to think they are so great. He taught about humbleness then someone commented that it would be great in heavy because so many great people would be there, is the idea I got from his exclamation. Jesus shared this bit more to remind them that being rich is not what heaven is about! The humble, the meek, the poor and hungry, those are the ones we need to remember at this time. If you hold a banquet and no one can come, take your food to the poor! I have a friend who does just this all the time! If we really get gems in our crown she is sure to get a heavy crown, but I am sure her humble heart would have her turn around and give it to someone less fortunate!

Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations.  When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’  Another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’                                                                                                                        “The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’  After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’  So, his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.  For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’” Luke 14:16-23

Let’s make it our challenge to feed someone this week! Look to share God’s grace, but also His love with those around us! Many will be stressed about events, or the weather, or just getting enough food to make the house seem merry for their kids. Bless someone with a treat! Order them a delivery pizza or something like that!

Be blessed as you bless, in Jesus’ name and In His love!
