Count Down Day 7
Today I have been thinking of Jesus’ beginnings, and how
Mary reacted to God’s Angel speaking to her. Seriously how many of us would
have freaked out today and thought we were losing it? Sure, she was a good girl
who was pure and honest, or God would not have chosen her. But wow, in the
Scriptures below we can read a bit about what she went through, but really we
just have the memory of the writer inspired by God!
I have to wonder what went through her head. Fear at first
probably, then maybe a bit of reverence, and then acceptance for God’s will. We
do that sometimes with much more simple things don’t we?
There was a year when my husband and I were planning to move
back home to Washington State some 30 years ago or so ago. He was about to get
out of the Navy and that had been our plan. We would move back home he would
get a job and I would go back to work at the school I worked at before we got
married. Or so we thought.
One day our pastors approached my husband and asked if he
would become a paid Children’s Pastor. The plan they had would keep us in California. I did not want to change my plans, but God gave me
one of those “I heard it in my mind and heartfelt “ moments on the way to
church. He basically , “Stop being a Jonah”.
Well, it didn’t take much for me to accept the will of God
and I was given a job and a few more College classed to work at the Preschool
myself as a teacher! Sometimes God has a different plan than we do. The best
thing to do is to follow His plan, just like Mary did! Instead of the normal life she leads a totally
different one because she was pregnant
before she got married to Joseph. She raised the Son of God, our Lord and
Savior. Talk about a change of plans!
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the
angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be
married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared
to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”
Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel
could mean. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the
angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and
you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of
the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his
Kingdom will never end!”
Mary asked the angel,
“But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”
The angel replied,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will
overshadow you. So, the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the
Son of God. What’s more, your relative
Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was
barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. For the word of God will never fail.” Luke 1:26-37
Look to God today to see where He is telling you to go, or what
He is telling you to do this season; then accept it! Walk the Walk He has put
before you,
In His love, Teresa Wilson
