Advent 17~ Do not let yourself be afraid! 12-17-21

When Mary was told she was with child she was told, "Do not be afraid." As the Angels spoke of Jesus' birth they said "Do not be afraid". Jesus Himself said "Do not be afraid..."

So why do we keep allowing fear to rule our lives? We fear being late for work, for school, for church, for an appointment. We have no reason to fear for Jesus is near!

It sounds kind of like a super hero mantra! "Have no fear ! Jesus is near!"

All fun aside it is sometimes easier to allow ourselves to be afraid and worry than it is to stay calm and rejoice. No one said life would be perfect or easier when we accepted Christ but He did say that we were to not let our hearts be troubled. Not once but twice in the same chapter in John 14:1-3 He said not to let our heart be troubled but to believe in Him.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.  John 14:27-29

Let not, do not, be troubled or afraid. This tells me that it is a conscious thing when we choose to worry or be afraid. Today in life it seems there is always something to be afraid of but we are told by God Himself to stop it! Stop being afraid and trust Him with all our heart and lean not in our own understanding! Why not make this our challenge for today! Let's decide not to be afraid of the news, of the tick toks of the media. Let us decide to trust God and listen to Jesus words to not allow ourselves to take on fear! Let us accept that He knows more than us and would not tell us not to 'let' our hearts be troubled or afraid. Let's be obedient to the Word!

In Jesus' name...
