How About a Do Over? In His Word 4-12-2021

The following is actually what the title says! It is a do over!  Life got in the way today and I looked up some old writing and this came up! I often wish I could do a day over because it is either so much fun or it is way too hard... how about you?

Do over!- In His Word 4-12-2021

As a kid playing a game, if people disagreed and the game came to a stop because of that disagreement we had a replay or do over.

When you became a Christian, you got what every kid who is loosing a game wants!

And lets face it we were all loosing in the game of life!

But don’t be sad, don’t be a poor looser…. You got a “DO OVER!”

All of us did!

2 Cor 5:17-19

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

NKJV

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.Eph 4:17-24

The life we used to live before Christ came into our lives is gone. For most of us here it has been a clean break, some it has been harder as if we were hanging on by a thread and two knitting needles trying to resew our old lives into our new ones. That is not what God wants for us though. He wants us to focus on Him. He wants us to hang on to Him!

Jesus died so that we could be cleansed from our old ways, or the old man and go on with sight and see.

Paul is the perfect example of this!

Paul  had his sight taken from him physically so that he could see spiritually!

Now that we have a Do over, like Paul we need to get studied up in the Word, and realize that we were wrong in how we lived befor Christ.

We need to realize that it is time to live what we learn.

Each week you come and hear the Word of God spoken and taught and shared here in the  Bible study and some of you are in Life Groups so you are getting more of the Word.

But what are we doing with it?

Are we just listening and nodding our heads and then tossing it out? Or are we listening and thinking of how we can put it to use in our lives?

We come to church, we receive the Word, and we leave the church after the service is over. We go off to the world to live our lives as they are set up.  But do we think on the Word of God during the inbetween times? OR do we expect all our reading to happen in church from the Power point screen?

ARE YOU LIVING WHAT YOU LEARN?

 How do you know?

Let’s check it out…

Are you reading the Word of God on your own?

We need to READ the Word daily! That is just like food to our soul!  We need to get to know God and the best way to get to know Him is in His Word!

A lot of Christians sit in the pew thinking that is enough…

Do not get stuck here! Start with Five minutes a day,

Then read ten, then fifteen… each week increase five minutes until you are in the habit of reading each day a good measure of the Word.

We all have the time to read, though many of us think we are too busy! We just have to give something up to make the time to read.

We need to read and we need to PRAY every Day!

Prayer time-

-      This is as important if not more so!
Common mistakes in the assumption of prayer rules;

-      Prayer is just for church!

-      Prayer is just for dinner.

-      You should only pray at home in your closet.

-      Only a priest or pastor can pray and be heard by God.

-      You can go along okay with just praying on Sunday.

-

-      WHAT DOES 7 DAYS WITH OUT PRAYER MAKE?

-

7 days with out Prayer make one weak!

The more we pray, communicate with God the Father the more we get to know Jesus our Lord and Savior. The more we know Him the more we can learn how to live a godly life! How can we love Him unless we spend time listening to His voice? How can we know Him unless we converse with Him?

-      We spend time with a friend in order to get to know them. Jesus is not asking for anything less!

-      We spend time working on a project in order to do a good job of it.

-      Shouldn’t we also spend time with Jesus getting the facts straight so that we might do a good job of being His?

-

Study to show yourself approved...

Studying the Bible is different from reading it. If you spend time reading the Bible each day, and you spend time praying, both for others and yourself daily; you still need to get into the Word and study it!

You need to truly hide the Word in your heart so that you will not sin against Him! Psalm 119:11
