Dailies ~ In His Word
November 5, 2019
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the
Lord one day is as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness,
but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish
but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9
Sometimes we wonder why God has not completed a
promise that He made. It seems like He has forgotten or maybe we did something
wrong, but the reality is it’s just not the time He planned to do it yet! I
love the group of scriptures in 2 Peter and these in chapter 3 are especially great!
They give me reason to stop and think about how God has things so in order that
His time is always right, even if it seems late to us. He is long suffering
toward us, and to me this says His patience is huge toward us and though we are
the little kid saying “are we there yet?” He is the parent saying “five minutes”
as our friend Dave used to say as we drove kids to camp. To him it was a
shorter time than the kids felt like it was because they were excited to get
there. Saying 5 minutes did not make it shorter really but it did make it seem
quicker and quieted the kids for a few minutes.
When God tells us He is coming soon, then to us
that may mean a day or a hundred days, to Him it could mean a year or a hundred
billion years; it’s not for us to know the exact time. I think if we knew the exact time we would slack
off or stress out, we would not be working fully on the task at hand and
bringing many to Christ through the sharing of His hope, in Jesus return, in
healing, etc. So many things, God has us wait on Him for, so why should we
worry and why should we fret? God has it all in control and we just need to
keep moving forward!
Heavenly Father, thank you for having everything
under control and getting it done… in Your time! In Jesus’s name, amen.
