Dailies ~In His Word
September 2019

This morning I am writing outdoors because one of our cats wanted to go out of the sliding glass door to the extent he was trying to slide it open. Squeezing his little Siamese head through the small opening he attempted to slide through, realized it was too small can came back meowing at me. I grabbed his little collar and my computer and slipped outdoor to sit in the patio and write. Opening the door big enough for myself to go through and left it while I set things down. He can clearly get out now. Instead he lay there beside the open door for a while. Enjoying the cool morning air?  It made me think of how sometimes we beg God to do something, and then when He opens the door we just sit there, and watch the open door. Sometimes I think it is because we are afraid that once we go out there a whole new world of issues will come up, and it’s true!
Look at Gideon for example; the mighty man of valor!
His people were in bondage to the point of being starved and treated as slaves. He was crying out to God with his people probably daily. Then when God sent an angel of the Lord to call him; opened door to freedom so to speak; they guy said “Oh not you must have the wrong man, I am weak, weaker than weak in the weakest of weak!”
God kept going with him, and Gideon became what God saw him as, eventually. God showed Gideon that he could do amazing things once he fully relied on God to do the mighty part! He walked out into the wild world of hope and strength! He became a conqueror and the one known for bringing the enemy to their knees!

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”  Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” Judges 6:10-15

Just as soon as Gideon obeyed the Word of the Lord these things came to pass. Prior to this the people of his family and tribe had been ignoring what God said. They worshiped idols, they did not remember not to fear the Midianites and so He had allowed this to happen the through their cries He came and brought them the weakest mighty man to show the people it was God doing the work. Sometimes we have to step out of the door into the fearful place knowing that God is walking with us. Then we will be victorious!

My cat eventually realized I was there and he came out for a while, until some kids walked by heading to school. The he ran in the house where it remains.
We need to remember that God is with us wherever we go, and that He will not open a door if we are not prepared to walk through it with Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you for walking with us through the doors put before us. Give us the courage, but more than that help us to trust You to take care of us as we walk in your direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
