Dailies~ in His Word

“Why pray?” Some
people have asked me this, as well as how does prayer change things?
My first answer is
always because it says to pray in the Bible.
Is anyone among
you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the
church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of
the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will
raise him up. James 5:13-15
Rejoice always, pray without
ceasing, in everything
give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.1
Thessalonians 5:17-18
What happens when we pray?
Continuing on in the chapter of James
chapter 5…
And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord
will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and
pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent
prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah
was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would
not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six
months. James 5:15-17
While Peter and
John were on the way to pray we read about how they stopped and prayed for a
lame man and he was instantly healed as well.
When we pray ‘stuff happens’ ‘lives change’ and ‘people are made whole’
because we take the time to talk to God about it. When we open our hearts and
mouths to speak to God and share our hearts desire the Lord will listen. Why? If God can do anything then why not heal
us without prayer? Just as we can breathe
in air or He could stop it he chooses to allow us to breathe, He also chooses
to allow us to express our hearts desire and then answers in the way that He
sees fit. And yes sometimes that means we do not get the answer we wanted. His
will be done, not ours. It was good enough for Jesus, why not man?
Heavenly Father
thank you or being there to talk to, to share my dreams and needs and desires
with and thank you for healing me when I needed it. Help us all to remember to
talk with you daily or as often as You call us, in Jesus’ name, amen.
