“These things I have spoken to you, that
My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love
one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than
this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you
do whatever I command you. John 15:11-14
What do you do for your friends that might
show them that you love them? Do you go out of your way for them? Jesus of
course gave up His life for us, but I think when we give up something to spend
time with a friend or loved one it can have a similar meaning.
Contrary to popular belief being a
friend is a two way street, you do not chose a friend for what they can do for
you but what you can do for them as well. Most long lasting friendships are
those who give and take from one another.
Look at David and Jonathon for
example. David stood up for his friend and Jonathon protected his friend from
his father.
They even devised a plan to make a
way of escape from trouble. Later in their story David honored Jonathon’s descendant
by keeping him alive. But that is another story.
Today take some time to think about
how you can be a better friend to those around you wither your friend is a
family member or not. Give them a thank you in some way today!
Heavenly Father, thank you for my friends
that You have given me, bless them today in some way in Jesus’ name amen.
