What are you called to do? Do you
know?
Therefore
we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good
pleasure of His goodness and the
work of faith with power, that the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him,
according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians
1:11-12
After
reading the above scripture I thought for a few about what the “Therefore” was
there for. It turns out that it was something referring to when Jesus comes
again, it was a full chapter but if you read it you will see that the author
was saying that they pray this because they want to be able to give a good
witness about the reader. As with Colossians below, we want to live a life
fully pleasing to God, not just ourselves or other people; walk worthy of our
calling, worthy of the Lord Jesus and be fruitful in every good work, gaining
knowledge and love and allowing Him to be glorified in us.
…that you may
walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Colossians 1:10
In being a follower of Christ, and
adopted into the Family of God, and one of His people we need to realize we
stand for Him. In everything we do we are a reflection on Jesus. In order to
walk worthy, or to live worthy, or to be counted worthy we need to have pure
hearts open and available to Him. That means that if we want to go run off to
play but we have a devotional to write for God, we do the right thing and write
first, then run off to play later!
We do not get involve in the world’s
version of life either but more so as we study the Word and learn, we will show
ourselves approved to God. In showing ourselves approved we will be standing up
for Jesus. Being His representative in the area He has called us to be in.
Whether it is putting on a Vacation Bible School or feeding the masses at a
Chicken restaurant, God has a plan for you and I and we need to walk worthy of
it.
In order to be fully pleasing God we must be fully
communicating with Him and doing the will of the Father, not just what we think
would be fun.
Sometimes God surprises us and
calls us to something we are no good at when we start and then He brings us to
the place where we excel in it. He looks at our hearts and sees what He can do
with us, then He directs our path, and we get to walk where Jesus walks.
Today, let’s seek God to find what
that calling is for this moment, and for our lives, and allow Him to use us!
Heavenly Father, help us to hear
You when You call and let us answer with a heart of acceptance for the task You
see us doing. In Jesus name amen.
