Dailies ~In His
Word
May 1, 2019
Set apart. What does
that actually mean? I read about being
sanctified in Hebrews 10-12 a couple times but I wanted to know more. What I
learned is that God has chosen us to be sanctified, or set apart from the world
and set up for His service.
As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into
the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be
sanctified by the truth. “I do not pray for these alone, but also
for those who will
believe in Me through their word; John 17:17-19
Jesus prayed for all those who will believe in Him through
the word of those who walked with him on earth. That means us. He said we also
are to be sanctified, or set apart for His good works,. We need to be able to help
our fellow Christians to stand out for Jesus too. If we are set apart to be
holy like Jesus we need to keep our behavior as such that they would see Christ
in us. That means we do not just not do the things of the world, we avoid them!
We are to avoid the appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 Everything is good
or evil so if it is not for God it is against us.
Now may the God of peace
Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit,
soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
When we are set
apart we will be blameless before Him, though people may not see it that way we
need to know that we are following His truth, not necessarily man’s.
But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats,
nor be troubled.” But sanctify the Lord God in your
hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you
a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they
defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
1 Peter 3:14-16
Sometimes we can suffer for doing the right thing, we can be
set apart to save the lost, or to serve God and not man, to sense when things
are not as they seem even. Not everyone is called to be set apart. In the Old
Testament it was mainly the Prophets and the Priests who were called to be set
apart. Specific people, today more of us and as Christians we specifically are
called to live a life worthy of our calling. That means we need to work at
being different according to His Word. We need to live according to His Word,
with the help of the Holy Spirit as our conscience we can do this! We can step
aside when the thing that used to draw us out into the world and its damaging
issues, we can step aside and seek God, and godly women or men to share our
struggles with and know that they will come along side and support us in our
walk.
Everyone needs to have someone who will be their support
system when they feel weak, or afraid. When I am afraid I will trust in Him, in
God who’s Word I trust! Psalm 56:3
Heavenly Father, sanctify us before You, that we may stand
up against the wiles of the devil our enemy. In Jesus name, amen.
