Delight Yourself -In His Word 10-22-18
When we read the Bible
daily are we reading for enjoyment or just because its what we do? Are you
reading because you committed to a reading plan or are you reading to grow
closer to Him?
Either way it could become
a chore instead of a daily enjoyment thing if we do not also delight ourselves
in the Lord; ask yourself the following question.
Do you delight yourself in
the Lord?
Trust in
the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:3-5
When we do delight
ourselves in His word we will find that it’s not about us.
“If you
turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Isaiah 59”13-14

And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,

It is about doing what God
wants us to do; celebrate His goodness and His pleasure. It is about giving
time to God, just like we do on the ‘Sabbath’ day.
It is not about us doing
what we want but about what God wants; He wants to spend time with us.
So we take time to read the Bible, to get to know Him but do you also spend time sitting and talking with God? I mean above your consecrated prayer time, but just listening, and sharing your heart with Him?

This is delighting in
Him! When we read our Bibles, the Word
of God, we need to take time to think on these things! We need to realize the
Word was given to us for a purpose, not like a fortune but like a direction
through words from God Himself. We need
to read it and not just put it down, or a way but to think on it, to talk to
God about it and delight ourselves in it.
It is great to read daily
Word readings but unless you take the time to really ‘get it’ in His presence
then it’s just another book. Even before
I knew who God was, or God through Jesus Himself; I knew a reverence for the
Word of God as special. It was always
something Holy. I dusted it regularly and kept it open because somehow I got
the idea that that was what you did with a Bible. If I in my humanness and
ignorance of my “BC” days could know it was special then why not those of us
who know what it says in the Word?
They attacked me at my time of trouble, but the Lord supported me.
He took me to a safe place. Because he delights in me, he saved me. The Lord spared me because I did what was right. Because I have not done evil, He has rewarded me. Psalm 18:18-20

Even though the world my seem to be attacking us on
all sides at times; coworkers trying to push us out of the way, housework
piling up, store lines going way too slow or getting longer as we wait. It is
good to delight ourselves in His Word and in His presence because He delights
in us too!
God sees you, and me! He cares about us in a way we could never
match, it is called delighting in us. He is why He gave us Jesus as our Savior.
He knows our hearts and knows we long to spend time in His presence today. This
week lets make it a plan to stop for a few minutes each day when we are done
with our reading, study or sermon, and listen, think on it, and delight in His
words.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to delight in Your
presence and in Your Word. In Jesus name, amen.
