When you read the
Bible each day do you hear His heart beating?
Are you tuned in and listening? In His Word
2-26-18
Do you know how
many people have read through the Bible in a year and still know very little of
what it actually say? I find it amazing but while I was reading through it for
a few years, it was encouraging and hope charging; but I still find places in
the Word that I do not recall ever reading. I have checked off my pages, marked
each one as read and still whether due to rushed reading to achieve the goal or
reading by rote I have missed major gems while I read.
So today when we
read our Bibles let us think about what we read. Let us read a little less if
it means we will think on it some more!
He wants us to
really ‘get’ the Word, not just skim it.
Listen for His
voice.
The young lions
lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good
thing. Come, you children, listen to me l I will teach you the fear of the
Lord. Who is the man who desires life. And loves many days, that he may see
good? Psalm 34:10-12
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not
the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves
the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the
sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and
am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My
life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must
bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. John
10: 11-16
If we are listening for his direction in the Word
when we read then we should be receiving something but is it important to know
the full Bible when we have read it? Or is it better to listen with the spirit
of the Lord speak to us each time we read knowing that we will get the Word for
the moment in time we are in?
Do we know God? If we know God then do we know
that when we read the Word of God that He is writing it on our hearts? Just the
fact that we are opening the Bible and seeing the words on the pages is enough
to imprint it in our memories if we should need them to be used for His glory.
So given this, when we read through the Bible in
a year we should know that what we have read will be brought to our remembrance
just as we are in need of it. It is not
reason to feel defeated, or as if we have failed in our daily reading Bibles;
the obedience of reading the Word daily is enough to please God. He will let us
know what we need to know when we need to know it. Selah.
God knows that most of us cannot memorize the
full work of the Scriptures so He had people print it out so we an carry it
with us and seek information in it and find the daily hope and encouragement we
need.
Do not be discouraged. Keep reading!
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your
life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you
will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather
into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than
they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
Matthew 6: 25-27
Yet we all worry at some point in our lives. We
can read all the instruction in the Word of God yet unless we take a selah
moment and apply it to our lives it will be useless words on the paper to us.
So here is my challenge to all of us! When we read the Bible starting today, let’s stop; take a moment to think about what we are reading and how to apply the knowledge to our lives. What file should we file it in? Take the above scripture as a sample; do not worry about your life. We could stop, think about things that have us “stressed out” and take a moment to pray and ask God to help us stop this behavioral influence. Why bother stressing if God has it all in control? He feathers the birds; surely he will find a way to give us new shoes when they get holes in them! Are you listening to the Word of God here before you? I am hearing God tell me to chill! He is telling me to stop getting so worked up over the event I am about to attend and to relax knowing He has it in His hands!
God values me! He thinks I am important enough to
take care of things for me; He values you the same way so stop worrying! Start
listening to what you read today!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for caring enough
for us that You had people put Your heart into Words for us to read and know
your heart today. Lord, know our hearts today and show us how to hear Your
heart beat in Your Word. In Jesus name, amen.
