When we pray we need to be sure that we have shut off the cares of this world and not allowed them to clog our thinking, but instead lift them up to the Lord that He will deal with them and we may live in peace ready and prepared to pray for the people who need Him. When we read in the Gospels about Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane we see He had Peter James and John with him and he asked them to pray while he went off and prayed.
Sometimes our job is to lift up our leaders that they would make the right choices, sometimes it is to pray for us to stay alert and watch and pray that we will not fall to the cares of this world we live in.
Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour? Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”
Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done .Mathew 26:40-42
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
The Importance of Watching
“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Luke 21:33-35
As we read in Luke here it is easy to get weighted down in our hearts and worry, and fret about those doing all of the cares but if we are watching and praying as Jesus asked them to do we will be strong and not give in to temptations that are in front of us in the news, or in the neighborhoods, even walking down the street we can find reasons to be stressed out over life around us. Instead of that lift it up to the Lord!
Watch,
and pray!
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us such an example when Jesus prayed and asked for the men to watch and pray that they would not enter into temptation. Lord we ask that you help us to know the words to pray when we see the things happening, or people doing the wrong things, that we would watch long enough to know to pray and not sit and get anxious. We ask that you keep us in your perfect peace as we keep our minds on You, in Jesus name, amen.
