When you pray ...
Do you believe for the answer? Or do you just hope?
Gideon prayed a prayer thatwe call a fleece prayer today. Three times He put out a lambs fleece on a rock and prayed asking God to either make it damp, or keep it dry in response to His prayers. Each time God answered appropriately. When this happened Gideon acted on the answers. He did not just pray and forget, he took note and prayed again to be sure it was of God and not just a coincidence.
When we pray first we need to believe that we will receive an answer. Now I am not gong on a 'name it claim it' campain, I am saying that we need to have faith to believe for the answer we recieve.
I actually prayed a few 'if then' prayers before I married my husband. I had to check and see if I was just being wooed by his gorgeous eyes and kind words or if this was a real "God Connection".
I have also prayed this way over a new car purchase for God to lead me to the car and to provide the price we could afford and no more. We got the car for less as we were about to leave!
Judges 6 tells us Gideon's story.
Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised, prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.” And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water. Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test. This time let the fleece remain dry while the ground around it is wet with dew.” So that night God did as Gideon asked. The fleece was dry in the morning, but the ground was covered with dew.
