What are you going to do? Its almost 2026. You've been planning your 'new year goals' and I want you to pray about it!
I want you to pray that God would show you your 'word for the year' if he has a focus for you.
Pray about anything you think you should improve in your mind or body and how you think you should do, ask God to show you what to do. What will work, if its His will for you to make that change.
The reason I like to pray first is that I do not trust myself. I trust God to show me what to do.
I do not like to lean on my own understanding, or my own choices; I make mistakes, God does not.
It works! I prayed for my husband, God answered every prayer I prayed for him specifically and I followed His path. All these years later, we have raised three adults who are serving the Lord in one way or another. The two of us have remained in love and solved many issues throughout the year with either prayer or patience or both.
In the past I planned thing, did the whole "change this old me to the me I think they want me to be" thing, but I realized that God has made me who I am. I know who I am in Christ. I am a child of God! I know my God does not make mistakes so I know He is walking with me down this path. Its not always easy. Sometimes its like going on a hike that has rock steps! Things get wobbly, there seems to be no way to hold on but then you just focus, pay attention and walk up them! Because you did that trusting God thing, He brought you there for a purpose you know? Because of that you get to see an amazing view! Sure you could stand at the bottom of a mountain and look up but when you climb up and do the hard tasks you can see so much further! So much more beauty.
Okay so all that analogy may seem like a mess, read it again.
Now, stop for a moment today, read the verses below. Then pray about each thing you think you want to get from next year. Tomorrow we will talk about a planner time.... but today I want to make sure we are in the right place with who we want to be, and who we are in Christ.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not in your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6
For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:16-17
And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people. But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Romans 16:17-20
Read, separate yourself from the ways of the world and focus on what God wants you to be, and do this coming year.
So, don't do what everyone else is doing this week, focus on what God wants you to do. That's the point!
Heavenly father, sperate us from the cares of the world and help us to focus on your for a time of refreshing and directing this week, helps us to look for ward to the days ahead as a new beginning with You as our leader. in Jesus name, amen.
