Open your eyes! In His Word 3-17-2023
We close our eyes to pray to God and ask Him to open our
eyes to see. Now that may seem odd, but the truth is we want our physical eyes
closed to ward off distractions as we open our spiritual eyes to see, and our
spiritual ears to hear what it is that the Spirit is saying to us in His Word
today.
Today as I often do when things of the world start to pull
at me I prayed “Create in me a clean heart Oh God and renew a right spirit
within me.” Funny thing is instead of
feeling overwhelmed with my to-do list I just got it done. Sometimes we need to
ask Him to open our eyes even in prayer, that we would see what to pray, what
to do with what we pray about and then we need to follow in those footprints He
puts in front of us to follow.
When is the last time you prayed to God and asked Him to ‘open
the eyes of your heart’ that you may see Him, o your years to hear?
Through the book of Revelation, it repeats the words “Those
who have ears to hear and eyes to see…” several times. It reminds myself to ask
Him daily if necessary to open my eyes and ears that I may see what He has for
me to see, do , or walk in. It often takes a lot of reading in the Bible to get
to the answer I seek, or to see it. It may not be an easy answer either. You know
when you have heard from God, even if you do not like the response, that you
have to walk through the door He has opened. You cannot deny when you see
something, some Word, or often that still small voice that whispers to our souls.
You cannot deny hearing His voice. The Bible is full of stories of people hearing
and doing what God said, and in the book of Jonah we can read about what happens
when we think we know better than God about what we should do. Fortunately,
when God opens the eyes and ears of our heart we know it is Him, and we know
better than to run from it. Still sometimes we do. Until He makes it clear that
He is the one in control.
“I, the Lord, have called you to demonstrate my
righteousness. I will take you by the hand and guard you, and I will give you
to my people, Israel, as a symbol of my covenant with them. And you will be a
light to guide the nations. You will
open the eyes of the blind. You will free the captives from prison, releasing
those who sit in dark dungeons. “ “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not
give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols”. Isaiah
41:6-8
Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word.
Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am only a
foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me! Psalm 119:17-19
I do not cease to
give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of
revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts
enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you,
what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is
the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the
working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from
the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above
all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is
named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. Ephesians 1:16-21
Lord help us to listen to Your Words in our hearts and
minds. Help us to see what it is that You want us to see and hear what you want
us to hear that we may walk in Your will every moment of every day.
Thank you for being available, always.
