Are you ? In His Word 10-21-2024
Or are you just dabbling in it?
The Word of God was breathed by God , written via
inspiration and compiled by man to bring out the important History, Spiritual
and physical of God and man. We need to be reading it daily to gain the
knowledge and insight to live the lives God has planned for us.
Yes, God has planned our lives but we have a habit of slowing the process of
His plans at times. Those are the times we fail. Those are the times we think ‘we’ve
got this’ and go running off to do a thing or down a path that ends up at a
cliff, or worse yet a wall of rock that we have to find away over or around.
Think on that for a moment, then read the following verses.
We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right
answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their
motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
The Lord has made
everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished.
Unfailing love and
faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.
When people’s lives please the Lord,
even their enemies are at peace with them. Better to have little, with
godliness, than to be rich and dishonest.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
Proverbs 14:1-9
I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He
lifted me out of the pit of despair, out
of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I
walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many
will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.
Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or
in those who worship idols. O Lord my
God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous
to list. You have no equal. If I tried
to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. You
take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have
made me listen, I finally understand you don’t require burnt offerings or sin
offerings.
Then I said, “Look, I
have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing your
will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.” Psalm 40:1-8
These two groups of scripture have a lot of wisdom, guidance
and praise to the one who has given it. In reading them both I started with one
verse but went on further because each verse suggests something about living life
that brought me hunger to know more wisdom or gratefulness. God is amazing the
way He provided human hands to put these verses together in such a way that we
can read them today, as they did back in the days of old, and receive so much! Our
God truly provides for our needs when we remember to put our trust in Him and
in His Word we can glean from the wisdom of others, as well as their failures.
David tells us of how much he had to cry out to God for help, and how God
brought him the things he needed in just the right time. But you have to read
the rest of the chapter, perhaps a few more books to gain the full story.
The Proverbs tell us little shorts of wisdom that can cut us
to the heart when we are doing the wrong thing and lift us up when we are in
need. They can literally give us direction in life!
None of this will benefit us if we are not in our Bibles
often, every day at least!
We can carry it around and look good, but if we do not open
it up and read it, then study it to show ourselves approved by God, not just
man, but also man. When we are full up on the Word of God we wont have to
second guess our steps, for we will know the will of God is best and we will truly
know the will of God.
How great is it that He has left us an owner’s manual to our
hearts and lives?
There are so many fun things to read about in the Bible, its
not all just dos and don’ts, these and thou, but it is full of life lessons of
the many people mentioned in it. Sometimes when I read for a while I can see it
play out before me, when I study the full books I feel like I am there too. I
know David, I saw him kill the giant! I know Paul I saw him as he stood before
Jesus and was blinded physically that he could see spiritually. I was right
along with Peter as he walked on the water, I too looked around and begin to slip
into the deep until I remember to have faith, over my fear.
When you read, really get in His Word you will become friends with the best people
who have ever lived! You may even find yourself sitting at Jesus’ feet as He
teaches the sermon on the mountain!
God grab your Bible and read the rest of these two chapters
to start, and then seek out the people I spoke of here, and look up Lidia the
seller of purple. Why did God put her in the Bible? Who were the women who met
at the waters edge to pray?
Go read the rest of the chapters! Then get in His Word to
seek and to find the rest of the story…in Jesus’ name.
In His Love,
