Keep looking up---In His Word 9-16-2024
We need to keep our eyes on the Lord, on His plans and on
His directions. If we do not get into the Word each day we will be as Judah and
turn our eyes away. God will be disappointed in us and He could allow life as
we know it to get worse! In Jeremiah 6 we can read about what happens when the
people decide not to do what God says. When they think their ideas are better
than His.
This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and
look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and
you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we
want!’
I posted watchmen over you who said, ‘Listen for the
sound of the alarm.’ But you replied, ‘No! We won’t pay attention!’ Jeremiah
6:15-17
You can go read the rest of the story to find out what
happens in Jeremiah 6-7. Overall this section I pulled out or you today is to
remind us that God knows best, and if we chose not to follow His advice in His
Word, or prayer, then we will suffer consequences.
Don’t let your heart be troubled! Psalm 1 shares with us
what happens when we do the right things! When we chose to listen to Godly advice
in His Word and meditate on it day and night we can be assured that God will be
pleased with us. Good things come to us!
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the
wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight
in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees
planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never
wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:1-4
Even more we can see in Psalm 33, again read the full
chapter on your own and you will be blessed! When we follow His Word, read it,
pray it, live it, we will find peace, hope, guidance, and joy! Moreover we will
find the strength to stand strong when we need to!
The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He
breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its
boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear
the Lord and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world
began! It appeared at his command. The Lord frustrates the plans of the nations
and thwarts all their schemes. But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. Psalm33:6-11
He will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on
Him. Isaiah 26:3
This is the
peace that passes understanding, like that of my ‘beyond blue baby’ years ago
who is now so strong and smart and a prayer warrior for God! The peace I had
then was due to the focus on His Word, and Worship. My mind was on Him, not my
worry, in fact I did not even worry but declared that my son would be okay!
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight
by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done
for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of
undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look
forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems
and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. Romans5:1-3
Life is full of all kinds of trials and problems, and we do
need that endurance! Romans 5 covers a lot of what we need to know to keep that
strength!
It starts with knowing Jesus a Lord, and it ends there too,
but inbetween it covers a lot of study to show ourselves approved by God, and
keeping our mind on Him, and thinking on these things!
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the
breastplate of righteousness, Ephesians 6:12-14
Be prepared in His Word, be ready in His Word, learn how to gird yourself up! Learn to trust in the Lord, and
His Word. Learn to walk in His love, and to have a heart of God. All of this
begins with the reading of the Word, not in portion but in fullness!
