Go tell it on the Mountain ~ Countdown
day 20
Years ago, when I taught preschool,
the kids would perform in Christmas programs
every year. The youngest would sing Jingle Bells, the Pre-K or Kindergarteners would always sing “Go Tell It on The Mountain”.
It was always so loud and strong, and beautiful but I wonder how many parents
realized what it was all about? Today
when I was reading Luke 2, yet again, I was stopped to pay attention to the
Shepherds. The scriptures below tell you that they listened to the angels and
went to find the Babe, Jesus Christ. They did not just do that, but they went
and told everyone about it all! About the angel giving them instructions, about
the heavenly hosts, about the fact that they followed the directions and found
Jesus right where they said the Shepherds would find him! The Word of God here
says that they told everyone! they went back
to work. Now that is amazing in itself. How man of us that when we experience
something really exciting and amazing would return to our jobs? We would
instead want to celebrate more with people who know all about Him. Well, they
kind of did that too. They returned to the fields with Sheep and pondered what
had happened that night.
When is the last time you pondered
what happened when Jesus was born? Go back today and re read chapter 1 and 2 of
Luke. Then go read Matthew and John as well! The first two chapters of each.
Think on these things awhile! It is an amazing story; it will want you to tell
somebody too!
They hurried to the village and
found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone
what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who
heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart
and thought about them often. The
shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they
had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them. Luke 2:616-20
Go tell it on the mountain, in the
streets, at the stores, on your block…
