What are you
running after? What are you running from? Don’t get caught!
Do
you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run
in such a way that you may obtain it.1 Corinthians 9:24
Therefore we also,
since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside
every weight, and the sin which so
easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set
before us, Hebrews 12:1
I thought of
this today that we are running toward our faith growth, but what we are running
for is the prize. That prize may be healing or a crown of righteousness;
whatever it is it will be the best thing because we stayed focused on the path
we are running for the Lord.
If we stop
every so often and try to just do our own thing, ignoring God’s prodding to
keep going on the straight and narrow road then we may waste time. Well, we
will waste time, and maybe we will even get caught up in the cares of the world
in the sin that tries to snare us and delay the work God has put before us. Think
a minute, we all seem to do better in life when we are walking that narrow path
God gave us to walk, but then we stray off due to laziness or frustration with
other people. When this happens we an stumble and fall, or we can get lost in
the needs of ourselves instead of others. We may even find something that looks
like it would be more fun than the walk we are on and stray that way. Reality
is there is nothing greater than the ‘prize’ God ha planned for each of us at
the end of the race He has set before us. So stay focus, stay the course and
achieve, or obtain the prize!
Heavenly
Father, help us to stay on task and get to the end the way You want us to get
there not on our own possibly fruitless ways. In Jesus name, amen.
