Dailies ~in His
Word
April 20, 2019
Resurrection Sunday is tomorrow. Take a moment to think about
what Jesus went through prior to giving His life for yours, and mine.
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and
said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that
Your Son also may glorify You, as
You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life
to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know
You, the
only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. I have glorified You on
the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. And now, O Father, glorify
Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
John 17:1-5
Just prior to speaking this prayer Jesus had taught the
disciples about believing, shared the Beatitudes, warned and comforted the disciples telling
them of what would come. Sometimes when I read this passage, I think of how
sorrowful Jesus may have been. He knew the pain we would go though, but also
because He knew the pain these close to Him disciples whom He trained up to
carry the Word to us; I believe Jesus felt their pain.
He knew that the time for Him to die on the cross was at hand
but that there was so much more He would love to tell them. The Holy Spirit
would have to take it from there.
He knew that if we knew Him, God the Father, Son and Holy
Spirit, we could make that connection and do what we have been given to do.
Only in knowing Him can we do the work of the Father, as Christ did. Sharing
the Gospel message, bringing others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and
allowing them to decide to believe, be healed, cleansed or encouraged to ‘make
it through’ the trials we walk through in life. Knowing that Christ died just
so that we could get through those trials, just so we could truly know the Love
of God. Just so… we could really know Him. Really,
know Him.
Do you really know Jesus?
Heavenly Father, thank you for coming to open our hearts,
minds, souls and lives up to You. Thanking you for teaching us what true love
really is. Help up to exemplify this toward those around us, in Jesus name,
amen.
