Dailies ~-In His
Word
April 2019
When we read the Bible and come across selections that say “therefore”
or something like that its always good to look back and see what its “there for”
. In this case it came from the chapter
before that was about Faith, and people in the Word who have overcome the
issues of life they had by faith in God to help them along or do what He said.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to
the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially
the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God
has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who
initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross,
disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s
throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then
you won’t become weary and give up. After all, you have not yet given your
lives in your struggle against sin. Hebrews 12:1-4
I love this scripture reference because it literally reminds
us to get unattached from the things that slow us down, that hinder our strong
walk with God. Sometimes like with a band-aid we will have to rip it off.
Sometimes that means pain, and even a little bit of skin pulls away with it.
But once we have removed it we can view the healing that is going on
underneath. It can be so easy to cover
an injury with a bandage. It hides it from our own view. I remember when I had shoulder
surgery and the stitching was right where I could see it but I did not want to
watch when the bandage was changed. It hurt more to look at the stitch than the
bandage, even if that sounds funny it was truth. I could ignore it easier if I did not look!
We can do the same with old hurts, or even sin, try to hide
it under a wrap or a bandage and forget it is really still bleeding. The thing is
we need to have air to get a scab and really heal. Sure there is a time to
bandage, but there is a time to rip it off and toss it!
Let’s rip off the bandage today and allow the healing to
begin!
Heavenly Father help us to remove the blinders we put on our
hearts and allow you to heal us from our past and to guide us in the way we should
go not just the way we think we should have gone. Thank you for all You do on
our behalf, In Jesus name, amen.
