Do you want to do Greater Things? ... In His Word 7-9-19

Greater things… In His Word  7-9-18

Some days we are so amazed at what God has done, or will do but do you know that even greater things are ahead? Imagine for a moment that you were with Nathanael when he met Jesus and knew instantly who He was. Jesus answered him in agreement that he was correct but also told him just because I saw you in a place does not give you reason alone to believe but that he would see even more amazing things! He said he would see the angels coming and going up on the earth!

Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man." John 1:49-51
This set of verses says two things to us; Greater things will be done, but also that the angels are ‘ascending and descending upon the earth!
This knowledge is great! Is that the greater thing? Nope!

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.  For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.John 5:19-21

So Jesus is the greater thing? Well no He is a greater thing but because He is God; He is the greatest thing!
If we believe, there is a theme here, if we believe we will do greater things than Jesus did when He walked the earth!

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.John 14:12-13

If we believe even greater works we will do in the Father’s name! So lets thing, Jesus healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, fed the five thousands… and God will do greater things? Even greater things than that?
Wait, so what does it say we have to do?
Whatever you ask in Jesus’ name that He will do to bring glory to the Father in the Son.
To be true this is not about us! This is not about me saying “I healed so and so because I prayed in Jesus name”, but it is about God seeing that in Jesus name the person was healed.
We are the middle men!
So what are you going to do? Are you going to go and feed the hungry knowing that with even a small number of things you can get a large amount of food out?
Or are you going to head out and begin praying for the sick and wounded?
I believe we need to walk each day ready to do the will of God and be aware of when He gives us the desire to do, or the belief to walk out an do the work He has put before us.
We need to be ready to serve, or fill the need, and not be selfishly walking on our own path. At least not if we want to see the greater things! This is because God will allow us to miss it, if we choose to be foolish, an we will not see the great works He would do through us unless we choose to believe.
It’s like with our salvation, the Bible said “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved… you and your household…” Only believe!
Believing is seeing it as real even when we are not dealing with a tangible answer just yet.
Believing is having faith…faith is believing.
Dear Heavenly father, help us today to trust you, to believe you and to follow the path You put before us so that we may believe and do greater things in Your name, the name of Jesus , amen,
