Are you being Revived in His Word? 5-14-18
God’s Word tells us to get a grip! We need to
pay attention to our spirit and keep our path straight both physically and
spiritually.
What do I mean? Well
obviously when we walk we want to make a straight line. The shortest distance
between two points is a straight line. We need to be strong and follow the path
God gave us to walk and to stay on it straight ahead to what is before us. We
do not need to get into turmoil of drama if one comes up but to keep walking
with Him. Be strong in the power of His might; do not give in to temptations.
Sometimes when we are
walking some place we see another path to the left or right and they look like
they may be fun. We know what to expect on the path we were given to walk, we
may even have the map, but still we want to step aside and try something off
trail! Or…maybe not.
Think about it, if we are
doing this in the physical and we fall we will get hurt, or we could get lost?
So why would we want to walk off trail in the spiritual side of things?
It is so easy to look at
one idea or another of what the Bible really means but if you read for self and
listen to the Holy Spirit speaking to you through the Word of God you will know
the truth.
We have been given a call
to listen to God in Hebrews 12:26-29.
When we listen to God we
will not want to follow the things of this world but instead we will want to
obey God.
So take a new grip with your tired
hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet
so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.” Hebrews
12:26-27
Getting a new grip could be as easy spiritually as reading the
Bible more and praying more and taking a little time to think on these things.
Selah Moments! Walking out a straight path can be as simple as staying focused
on His Word, and not skipping our plans to study together.
A Call to Listen to God
Work at living in peace with everyone,
and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after
each other so that none of you fail to receive the grace of God. Watch out that
no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. See that you
do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who
spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away
from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice
then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I
shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now
this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those
things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which
cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore,
since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by
which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly
fear. For our
God is a consuming fire. Hebrew 12:26-29
We need to work at it; its not always
easy doing the right thing but God knows this and He gave us the Holy Spirit to
guide us.
When we accepted that we believe in Christ Jesus as the Son of God
and asked Him into our lives, our hearts, and our plans we accepted that He
would guide us to the right place. We accepted that we would have to listen to
His instruction, in the Word of God. If we think we can fool God into thinking
we are doing the right thing and walking the right path when we go off trail
then we are greatly mistaken. Our God knows our hearts and minds, better than
we do in fact! He knows if we are trying to cheat God and do things our own way
‘for a while’ or ‘for a change’. We are also called to be holy as He is holy,
but the only way we can do that is to strive to do the things the Word tells us
are good and right and to listen to the Holy Spirit within us. Some call it a
conscience, or a ‘gut feeling’ the truth is if you listen with your heart you
will hear the voice of God; heart to heart.
And Christ lives within you, so even
though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you
life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of
God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised
Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this
same Spirit living within you. Therefore,
dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful
nature urges you to do. For if you
live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you
put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who
are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
Romans 8:
10-14
Let’s live by the Holy
Spirit guiding us each day; let’s start our day in prayer and reading and then
just sit and listen. Think on the Word we read and what God wants to tell us
each day.
Dear Heavenly Father; open
our eyes to see and our ears to hear that we may listen to Your voice in Your
Word today and every day that we may also follow Your will and your path for
us. In Jesus’ name amen.
