Do you ‘get it’? In His Word 3-26-18

Do you ‘get it’? In His Word 3-26-18
How many times have you sat through a sermon or listened to someone talk on the radio but you just didn’t get anything from it? Why do you think it is? Some will blame the preacher or the teacher; I like to think it’s my own fault when I do not get something from the sermon. After all if I am a Christ follower then I should be looking to Him for my “Word for the day” not man!

If all I want is to be fed physically that is all I will get; a full belly. In the same idea; if all I want is to feel good at church that is what I will get. I don’t know about you but I want more! I want to grow closer to God each week; to know more about Him and how to please my heavenly father!  I want Word to live by when I get spiritually fed.

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.  But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Hebrews 5:12-14

Each time I pick up my Bible to read it I do so wanting to glean from the pages, and pages that my God had penned so that I could know Him more. I can skim the pages and find a special note right now if I look at the marks I have placed on pages. It is delightful to dig in His Word daily!  There is really so much to learn. After all we do not know everything in the Word…

Let’s do this!
Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37 says this! It is fast becoming my favorite Psalm!

Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
Psalm 37:3-5

We need to trust God and do good because it is what God wants, not just because we get something from it. We need t live our lives to please Him, not self.
We must be taught in order to teach; in order to be taught the Word of God we must be eager to understand it and pray regarding this very thing.

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.  And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also 2 Timothy 2:1-2
Study to show yourselves right in God’s eyes not man’s, for it is God whom we need to worry about accepting how we view things, how we speak and how we live.

Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.  Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.  And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.  Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Chris depart from iniquity.”
 2 Timothy 2:15-19

Since God knows us personally, (according to 2 Timothy) He knows each of us if we are His, He knows our names, and He knows our walk; we must strive to walk according to His will, and His Word. My God will supply all my needs; He will protect me when I call on His name. If I follow along with His plan for my life things will go much better for me. If I try to do things according to my plans I may find it more difficult to get it done; unless my plan is His plan!
In order to get the whole plan from Him I need to seek Him. How do I seek Him? I seek Him by prayer and meditation on His Word.
How do I know I will find Him when pray and read His Word, my Bible?
It tells me that those who seek Him will find Him when they seek Him with all their heart.  Psalm 119 1-3 says this!
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart!  They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.

We need to try our best to follow what the Word says is right, and not just what the world says is right; when we are right with God we are right!
Heavenly Father, we ask today for your help in following Your directions and trusting You to keep our walk on the right path. Help us to find hope and guidance in Your word today and bless us with the closeness that comes from spending time with You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
