Back to the beginning.. In His Word 1-9-17
When we start out the New Year we have a habit of planning
lists of what we are going to do to make this year better than the last. We
think about how we will do everything right, we will do the right things not
the wrong and we plan to loose weight or gain money or both. Well I know we all
think this is something new but its not. The word of God says there is nothing
new under the sun, but also it shows us that Jesus brought us back to the
beginning.
History merely
repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.
Ecclesiastics 1:9
My little children, these things I write to you, so that
you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous. And He
Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for
the whole world. Now by
this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His
commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But
whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we
know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him
ought himself also to walk just as He walked. Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment
which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which
you heard from the beginning. Again, a
new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because
the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.
1 John 2:1-8
So we see that it is written in His word and as it is
written we can read it, then share it with others as the Apostles did back in
the day that Jesus Christ made right our wrongs and only through Him, and His
grace can we truly start anew and a new year can become a new beginning. I mean, sure we can try to gain ground and
set our own goals and maybe we will accomplish them; but if we truly want to
make a difference in the world we need to share the Good News about Jesus with
those who are still walking in darkness not understanding that God wants to
change our lives for the better, Himself!
So we have stopped evaluating
others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from
a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that
anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a
new life has begun! And all of
this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God
has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 2 Corinthians
5:16-18
God the father told the people to be fruitful
and multiply, Jesus tells us to go tell the world about the Good News of the
Gospel. This is the reason He came to us was so that we could truly multiply
the kingdom, not just in physical numbers but in spiritual numbers as well.
What is a spiritual number?
When we become Christians, we are joined
together with other believers and we worship Him. As Christians we must worship
Him in spirit and in truth. The Holy Spirit that He gives to us helps us to
worship Him in spirit so I see this as growing in the Spirit. The more we
listen to the Lord God, via the Holy Spirit speaking to us both in prayer
times, in His Word, and through Godly men and women… even God’s handiwork can
speak to us for Him when the Holy Spirit is involved. Look at Balaam! In Numbers 22:1-41 it tells of the story of
Balaam, in the story God uses a donkey to stop him and make him obey God. So
God is not unable to use anything, and His Spirit , our Holy Spirit guides us
in truth. So when we allow the Holy Spirit to use us we will be fruitful and multiply
the Kingdom of God .
So for your goals this year why not start
with these three things;
1- Pray
as often as you think to pray. Ask God to direct your path in all areas this
year.
2- Read
the Word, research to find what things He would want from you. Colossians is a
good read for that sort of thing.
3- Listen
to the Holy Spirit speak to you through the Word, and prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father,
direct our paths this year in a way that only You could direct us; by your
Spirit and Your Word bless us, and keep us from stumbling. Help us to be
fruitful this year and bring others into Your kingdom, in Jesus name, amen.
