Are you Looking In His Word? 1-2-17

Are you looking? In His Word 1-2-17

So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:14

In the second chapter of Acts we can read about how the Holy Spirit came upon the people in the upper room. They did not stay there but they went out to the town around them and beyond. We all probably know about the fact that the holy spirit came on them like tongues of fire and all, and they spoke in ‘unknown tongues’. Thinking on this today I realized that not only did some people look at them and think they were drunk but that those who were full of the Spirit were looking to see that the other people were looking , and wanted to know what was going on. We know this because Peter addressed the crowd.

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place.  Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.  At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem.  When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. Acts 2:1-8

If they had not been seeking, or looking to God for direction the Apostles would not have received the gift that day.
If the onlookers had not been looking on; they would not have known the truth and been set free.
“People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know. Acts 2:22

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.  Titus 2:12-14

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hebrews 9:27-28
When we live our daily lives we need to be looking for guidance in His Word. We need to be looking for hope, in His Word, and we need to be looking for healing, in His Word. He has written it, or rather had it written, so that we could grow closer to Him and to know what to do in life’s most horrible times as well as great times; but we must look for it!
Then once we have the good Word in us we need to look for someone to share it with. It is not given to us to just keep it to ourselves, we need to be looking for others who need to know the truth and be set free to worship Christ Jesus.
We also need to be looking within us to see what we need to change.
So it’s sort of like a three point system;
1-    Look to God and His Word.
2-    Look to ourselves as to what we can change from what we learned in His Word.
3-    Look to others and help them to look to God and seek change and so on, and so on.

So what are you looking for today? Peace? Hope? Love? Guidance?
Look it up in the Concordance and study to show yourselves approved by God and then you will find what you need, I can almost guarantee that you can find the direction you need to find the answers you are looking for; In His Word!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the Word to study, to look to when we need to know what You would do, or would have us do in our daily lives. Help us to show others where to look to follow after You in Jesus’ name, amen.
