Do you know ... In His Word 12-5-16

Do you know who you are? In His Word 12-5-16

Who are you?  I don’t mean your earthy name but the person God intended for you to be.
You may wonder, as I do from season to season; just who you are supposed to be.
I know that the Word has the answer to what we seek, so let’s check that out for this week!
So he explained it to them: “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10: 7, 9-10
From this scripture of the day on my Bible App I found that Jesus had to explain who he was as well. He gives us a purpose; He gives us a rich and satisfying life! He is our shepherd, and if this is true then we are the sheep.
So , we are sheep.
What are some attributes of being sheep? As sheep we are  followers, also we know our leader’s voice and attend to it. We hang together in groups for safety and comfort. And this is a good thing.
Ah! So if we are sheep we need to be okay with being in groups working together to do what the master says.
Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and always thought about the honor of his name.  “They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.  Then you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
Malachi 3:16-18.
We are His people, we are to serve Him.
Concerning the Gentiles, God says in the prophecy of Hosea, “Those who were not my people, I will now call my people, and I will love those whom I did not love before.”  And “Then, at the place where they were told, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’” Romans 9:25-26

After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.
And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline,   and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child. “Hebrews 12:4-6

Though they stumble, they will never fall,   for the Lord holds them by the hand.  Once I was young, and now I am old.   Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.  The godly always give generous loans to others and their children are a blessing. Psalm 37:24-26

So to sum it up we are God’s children and because we are His children we will never be left to struggle alone. He has said He will never leave us nor forsake us. We are strong with His Spirit within us and we are to gather together with other like minded individuals and follow Him.  When I ask myself who I am in Christ, the answer always comes around to I am His child.
My earthly father is no longer with us but my heavenly Father is enough for me. Think for a moment how precious it is to call us His children, not just His people. The children of Israel were called His people, and we get to be called His children.
I am a child of God who has a purpose that God knows, and sometimes I forget that He knows what He is doing. But thank God he does not forget what it is that I am supposed to do. He does nor  does He forget you either. When I forget what my purpose is, to share the Gospel story, to let people know that God is with them, He reminds me in His Word.
Ask God today to show you your purpose, for He knows the plans He has for you!

This is what the Lord Babylon For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. Jeremiah 29:10-12
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you know the plans for us. We ask you to reveal them to us today, remind us of them tomorrow and each tomorrow that we may walk and in faith, hope and love knowing You have our back! In Jesus name, amen
