Did you fall in to His Word?
Some people have an amazing
story of how they went to church or a church camp and ‘found God’ or ‘accepted
Christ’ because of the preaching of a Godly man or woman.
Still others are ‘lead to
Christ’ by a street mission or a missionary who came to their country or town
to lead people to Jesus and help feed them at the same time.
I have heard some
testimonies that told of people who ‘grew up in the Word’ meaning that they
grew up in church learning the Bible and believing it as they grew up. There
are a few people out there who had no direct leading by anyone particular but
the Holy Spirit was more obvious in His guiding them to “believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ and be saved…”
And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be
saved?” So they said,
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your
household.” Then they
spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. Acts 16:30-32
I have never heard someone actually
say that they stumbled upon the Word of God and found Jesus but in some ways
that is what happens to many. When I came to believe in Christ I was not
looking specifically to believe in Him, I was trying to find out where we went
when we died. I had lost a couple of loved ones and during one of the pre-service
viewings I realized that we did not remain in our bodies after death. If you
ever doubt this just touch a dead body. There is no life in there and you can
tell it. I began looking in many places to find out what happens but one day I
realized I had kept this little Bible from my youth as a toy and a decoration
for my room and yet I did not know what it was all about; not really. There is
a long story about the day my grandmother died that lead me to read it but I
will not go into it now; ask me about it sometime or read it in my testimony
page. The point here is that I came upon the way to heaven in the Word of God.
We can find hope, love, faith,
and belief in the Word of God because it is here for us to read. The amazing
thing is that the day of your salvation choice comes when the holy spirit opens
up your eyes to see what He has had written there for you personally to read
just when your heart was ready.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit,
but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have
gone out into the world.2 By this you
know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come
in the flesh is of God, 3 and every
spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ
has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the
Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.4 You are of
God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is
greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of
the world. Therefore they speak as of the world,
and the world hears them.6 We are of God.
He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we
know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:1-6
When I found myself
accepting that the Bible and God were full of truth then I found myself falling
into the Word daily. Every since the time I decided to ‘check it out’ I find
myself longing to read the Bible almost daily. I say almost because let’s face
it we all have days when we just don’t ‘feel’ like reading the Bible or it gets
too busy in our lives to find the time to sit quietly and we forget. Sometimes
when I have friends stay the night I forget to read in the morning because we
get up and go. The good news is Jesus doesn’t stay behind; He is with us always
via the Holy Spirit!
I can say in my most
sorrowful moments the first person I cried out to was God, I often imagine myself
falling into His arms and crying my heart out on His shoulder until I am cried
out. We only can do this if we are in the Word and prayer really knowing that
God is with us ready to care for and comfort us in our times of need. He is
that loving Father God the perfect one to run to in a time for trouble; but we
will only really know this if we read the Word for ourselves.
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest,
lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:11-12
In your life right now the
challenge I have for you is to fall into the Word of God in the same way. Don’t
just sit there reading the words but envelope yourself in the Bible reading
today. Think about who is talking, why they may be talking to the people they
wrote this to, and what it means to your life today. Kind of like if you fell
into a pool full of water, immerse yourself in the Word of God. Let the words
become meaningful to your day now, not just a history lesson or lesson for the
other person but for you personally! When I take the words personally I find
that they are useful in many things.
For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
When
it is in you, in your life you can share it with others, if we never fall into
the Word and immerse ourselves learning about God, and His love, and hope we
will never be able to share it with others because we will not know it!
My
friends today if nothing else comes from this read I pray that you will become
nourished by the Word of God and have the desire to tell somebody what Jesus
has done for you today, everyday!
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out
of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they
have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears
away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in
all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
2 Timothy 4:2-5
Dear Heavenly Father, we call
to you that you may answer and we may read and listen to Your Words today. Draw
us nearer O Holy Spirit and bring us closer through Your Word, and prayer, In
Jesus name amen.
