Don't just sit there... In His Word 9-26-16

Don’t just sit there In His Word
What do you do with what you learn about each day when you read the Word? What do you do with the words the preacher preached on Sunday?
Do you just sit there with the information you have received?

Or do you pray about what you have learned in His Word? If so; what happens when you start to pray?

The word of God tells us to walk in the Spirit, that means that we should live life knowing God is with us and follow the response of ‘wwJd’ in our daily lives.
Why do I think we need to have a response, or to do something? Through out the Word of God we find many people whom God gave a position to be used; Esther, Moses, Noah, Jonah, Paul, Peter, to name a few. God places us in the place He wants to use us, our job is to walk in the work He has given us.
But first; we need to get ready in the Word! We need to read our Bibles and pray, study it out and know what is in there so that we can walk it out in our daily lives.

When Jesus was walking the earth, about to be crucified even, He told his Apostles some important things.  He told them that things happen for a reason, even things we don’t like.

“These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. John 16:1-4

Jesus prepared them for a time when people would be against them instead of honoring them because they were in His presence; they would instead seek to kill them because of it. He warned them so that they would remember and be able to withstand the evil one to be prepared and ready spiritually not just physically.

He prepares us today too, God’s word tells us to be prepared with truth, and the Gospel of peace, full of faith and hope we can know that God is with us in whatever we are going through and if we keep praying even when we do not know what to pray God will be with us and protect us. He is the righteousness in us after all, the Breastplate-- which is our protector. He tells us that with Him we can stand against anything that is against us and not allow it to drag us down. We do not need to allow other peoples choices, or actions to annoy us to the point of anger, we can stand up and remember who we are in Christ!
We wont know all of this if we do not first read it in our Bible, or learn it in a Bible study hearing the Word of God, and praying.

We need to do more than sit there in church walking through the motions playing the roll of Christian.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:14-20

The ‘wicked one’ will come against us but he cannot prevail because we are with Christ in spirit.

Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as 'frontlets' between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, Deuteronomy 11:18-20
We need to keep the Word of God in our hearts and continue the life line on to our children, tell them of the good things God has done that they too may share the goodness of God.
The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath. John 5: 7-9
What are we going to do with all the good stuff God has given us? We need to share it! We need to get up and walk! We need to tell somebody what Jesus has done for us, and we need to walk the life He has given us to walk upright and ready, no matter what we have to give, we need to give; in word or deed.

So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. Acts 3:5-7
In these portions of scripture today we find that there was an action to take place not just receiving the healing, direction, or guidance but doing something with it. Press on today! Go forward! Do something with what you read… in His Word!
Dear Heavenly Father, help us today to study, to pray, to understand what Your Word tells us and to live our lives accordingly. Help us to stand up and do something with what You have told us, in Your name we pray, amen.
