Are you Sign Seeking-- Or In His Word? 12-15-12

Are you sign seeking, or in His Word?

The Word of God tells us we know nor the day nor the hour and that we are to live our lives as those who love the Lord; so many still seek signs and wonders to prove that God is real.

He walked the earth teaching us the truth through the history in the Word, he shows us the directions to follow Him, not false gods, not signs and wonders and yet we continue to test Him with these very things today.
But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test Me?  Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said, “Caesar’s.”  And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”  Luke 21:7-9

Jesus asked the scribes and the priests who were asking him question after question trying to trip him up; “why do you test me?” We are no better than they are when we are seeking for Him to give us a sign telling us that He is real. We know He is real, we have scriptures that show us, but we see people all the time on social media posts saying “Like if you love, believe, etc, Jesus” I have to ask what good is it to show someone a fake cloud formation and tell them you love God? To me it says; “Look this gimmick someone created and claimed it was real is like God to me.” If this is what you perceive your God to be like; someone who gives lame pictures as signs then you may not be following the right god!
The Holy Spirit will give us the identification of what is of God, who is of God and what to do with the information He gives us.
It does not always make sense to those who hear or see it but God has a plan and He will reveal His light in our darkness as He directs us through our lives, in His time.

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.  As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise    and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.  So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.  Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.  It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.  So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say its all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.  This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength. Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.  Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.  God chose things despised by the world  things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
We are given the scriptures, what we should know is clearly written in our own languages.  We are given the Holy Spirit to make it clear for us, why do we second guess His meaning?
If a baby smells we know that it is time to change the diaper, we do not need to look for signs and wonders.
When Jesus comes again the Bible, the Word of God, tells us He will be seen of all men. That means we will not miss Him because the sheep, us will know our shepherd.
We cannot ‘figure out’ God. His directions are in the Word and if we study to show ourselves approved by Him, and live our lives accordingly then we will know.
When we constantly look for ‘signs and wonders’ we are like the teenagers whose parents went away and left them with the house. They partied, and carried on doing what they knew their parents would not agree with and then they are constantly looking for the car, or listening for the phone because “mom and dad” could be back any moment!  Instead they should have had the smarts to behave and not have to worry what they were doing when mom and dad got home but obedient to their rules, and guidance they would be enjoying themselves when the parents got home instead of stressing out and worrying that they will be caught unaware.
So how can we live our lives, not seeking every sign and wonder yet still know when Jesus is coming back?
-          Begin in prayer! Seek God while He may be found. (Isaiah 55:5-7 Colossians 1:9)
-          Humble yourself and lift God up. Living a life that puts God’s will first keeps us in right living with God.
-          1:Corinthians 1:18-20
-          Walk worthy of the call God has put on your life. Do not follow the people claiming to go here are there but follow God, His Holy Spirit is there to guide us.
-          Pay attention to where He has us; if we walk around with our head up looking for Him coming back in the clouds all the time we will trip over the things He has given us to work with here and now.
-          Love one another, for God is love. Focus on spreading His gospel through the scriptures not through other peoples claims; read it for yourself and get to know God personally through His Word.
When we have put on the mind of Christ we will have the Holy Spirit to let us know when He is returning. Until then live like God is coming today and share the Word, bring love, life and hope to those around you by sharing His Word.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to share Your words and trust that You will do the work that you started and that our pointing out false gods for people to worship will not bring them closer to You. Direct us as we share You with those around us. In Jesus name, amen.
