... And so it Begins! In His Word 12-29-14

and so it Begins-In His Word 12-29-14

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. ... Genesis 1:1

Each of us has a beginning, and of course and end; it’s what goes on in-between these two that really matters in our lives. After all we were all obviously born into the world, not always the most ideal of situations but we can all rest assured that God had a purpose in our beginnings.

Jeremiah 29 tells us that He knows the plans for us, that they are indeed for us to prosper, in some way. So, why is it that so many do not receive the blessings of God upon their lives? After all in various places throughout the Bible God talks to us through His people and their stories; over and over again we read of people coming to God and Him answering their prayers and blessing them.
Time and time again God’s people mess up things by making selfish choices, following the crowd or just not caring what God thinks and making dumb decisions.
Even today we see people in churches and out that choose to follow man instead of God; even in the very sermon they hear they take time ‘dissecting the voice’ instead of hearing the Word of God.

I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bear young; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 36:11

Sometimes I wonder when I see people chatting away through half the service if they will receive from God what He is handing them.
He said He would bless us and keep us.
If we are not paying attention will we receive it?

This time of year my kids generally get together with friends and celebrate the fact they can stay up all night and shout “Happy New Year”.
If they chose to fall asleep before the Midnight hour it would not stop the change in the calendar dates, they just would not experience the joy and excitement of making it through the night.
New Beginnings....
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and everything else followed suit. He did not randomly choose to create it, but He planned to do so.
When we flip the calendar at the new year date do we plan out our new year or do we simply exist in it? Is there a reason to celebrate a new day? Sure, why not?
Celebrations go back to the dawn of time when God chose to celebrate the completion of the World with a break in his days. He celebrated by resting.
Now in our country, and many around the world it seems, we celebrate the beginning of a new year. It gives us a chance to set goals and attempt to complete them in that year’s time frame.

So this year as we plan out our goals let us remember God; ask Him what we should be completing this year; ask Him what we should start. Begin your year as God did… in the beginning was God.
So start your year in prayer, communicating with Him.
Ask Him to create in you a clean heart as you begin your year ahead. Set the goals you know you will achieve when you put your focus, trust and time in His plans for you.
Then you will not need to worry when you hear bad news, you will not have to be troubled by rumors you hear and you will be walking in Faith believing for the God of Glory, the God of new beginnings to bless you and keep you.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”’ Numbers 6:23-26

That is my prayer for this year. That we would all be kept in peace, blessed of God in His manner and in His graciousness. That as we walk in our days His countenance would shine upon and through each of us and others would see Him in us and give Him the glory.
Also, that we would indeed be a blessing to Him and pleasing in His sight.

But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. Mark 13:7-8

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing us this year, guide and  direct us as we go through the next and help us to be fearlessly following you and faithful in your sight. In Jesus name, amen.

Be Blessed Not Stressed-
Accepting life’s little problems as they come and putting it into perspective.

While going through an extremely stressful year, noticing a few more white hairs and thinking on what we did about certain situations I signed a letter with my usual signature; ‘Be blessed, not stressed.’
I had been adding of late the by line “living the motto” as I have  come to a place where I no longer want to stress over things that are dropped in my lap, that scurry into my life unexpected, or things that people have thrown at my face. I have chosen to work each day on doing the right thing. I have chosen to work on not stressing over everything, but instead handing each thing over to God; as often as it takes for me to know the peace of His unexplained forgiveness and grace once again.
This book is a compilation of situations and experiences that have brought me to my knees and how we can work through situations with God our Father and find peace.

In that peace we will be blessed, not stressed as we walk hand in hand, or arm in arm in His love.

As a child when things went horribly wrong, or when I perceived them as such; I did not know that I had a God to turn to. So I wished upon a star each night before bed. I would peek out my window and strain my eyes until I saw that first star; “Star Light Star Bright” would be spoken from my child sized voice and I would dump on that star all of my hopes and dreams. Little did I know they would fall, crashing to the ground unheard by the ‘wishing-star.’ I believed the star would do it all; after all it was the thing that I was taught. One such night I began wondering where the stars came from, I had heard of God of course, as a “supreme being” who created everything by speaking it into existence; but I did not know Him.

When we do not know God, then we do not know who it is who can help us and we grasp at stars to answer our prayers. I think the first step in being blessed and not stressed is to accept that we need a savior. We need someone to whom we can know is listening to our every hope, our every dream and our every fear. We need to know that our Savior is listening and cares. That He will not drop our prayers to the earth and shatter our lives but instead He will hold us through those shattering times and comfort us by His Word and by His people surrounding us with love.
We have to accept that Jesus died on the cross so that we could have this love, and peace and even some joy in our lives.
~*~
25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. 26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! 27 The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. 28 But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”
29 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” 32 And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household. 33 Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. 34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God. Acts 16:25-34

If you are reading this book and you have not yet found God to be your savior, and you are at the place in your life to do so please pray a similar prayer to the following. Make it your own though, this is my generic version of how to pray and let God know you believe in Him, you tell Him what you think, in your own words so he knows in your  heart that it is true.

Dear God, Thank you for listening to my prayer today. I want to thank you for sending your Son Jesus to die on the cross for me and to say I believe in Jesus as Your only begotten son who died and rose again, to open the door so that I could ask you for forgiveness of all that I have thought, or done that was not right.  I ask that You forgive me of my sins, and make me part of your family. I also ask that You would take my heart and my life and make it refreshed and new that I may learn what Your love is. Thank you Lord for all that you have done, help me to follow You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Now if you just prayed for the first time you need to tell someone. The instructions in the little New Testament that I followed in order to ask Jesus to come into my life and be the listener to my prayers said to do that. The reason we do this is that it makes it real to us. When you have to admit to someone that you believe in Jesus as your savior, your prayer listener, your Lord God; it makes it real to you personally. Before that its just words you said that you think you can take back. I know! I was supposed to sign my name in my Gideon’s New Testament and I wrote it in pencil in-case I changed my mind. Let me tell you, I have not in all my years of knowing who God really is, never have I wanted to change my mind. It is funny too, because up until then I changed my mind on a regular basis! Once I made that first step in being blessed by God I have never turned back. I pray that I never will have that big of an ordeal that I would think I had to walk away from Him.
Let me make it clear here that you really can not walk away from God. He is like one of those sticky goo hands you throw part of it to the wall and it always comes back to you. When you think of it, it makes sense; where could you go that God would not find you?

This time of year we are often caught up in a debate between Santa and Jesus, or some other created story that brings joy for a moment. I believe the day nor the hour do not matter but what matters is that we rejoice and celebrate as God's Word tells us a celebration of what God has done is a good thing. Many places in the Bible tell His people to celebrate instances that He has brought them through. This year let's not get caught up in what someone else is doing or isn't doing, if they are saying a word correctly or not. Instead lets take time and think about who it is that put the stars in the sky. Let us rejoice and celebrate that God did choose to come in the form of His son Jesus and was born to save us from our lack of holiness, our imperfections and our sorrows. It does not matter if you have a gift to give, as long as you give your heart to Jesus and receive from Him a joy renewed. I new start, if you choose to take it.

To truly be blessed and not stressed we must remind ourselves daily that He us because we matter.

We must remind ourselves that things may or may not improve in an instant but with God here to talk to and make requests known to we have a reason to hope that they will indeed improve.
This week let's not only look for the little things in which we can find reason to hope for tomorrow to be a better day but lets find a way to push on and give over to Jesus the Author of our lives, let's ask Him to write the next chapter without our help. Let us give up our control of life as we live it and ask Him to push us on to do the things He would have us do; whether that means going to receive a blessing at a soup kitchen or give one; God would rather have us receive blessings in our time of need, not ignore them for pride's sake.
Thank God today for the little things you have found, and find a way to be blessed not stressed.

Read for yourself; Matthew 16:15-17 & John 6:1-69.

Dear Heavenly Father it is my prayer that everyone who reads this would truly "get" your present this year; the gift of Love that goes on forever. The life eternal. In Jesus name, Amen

Are you Sign Seeking-- Or In His Word? 12-15-12

Are you sign seeking, or in His Word?

The Word of God tells us we know nor the day nor the hour and that we are to live our lives as those who love the Lord; so many still seek signs and wonders to prove that God is real.

He walked the earth teaching us the truth through the history in the Word, he shows us the directions to follow Him, not false gods, not signs and wonders and yet we continue to test Him with these very things today.
But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test Me?  Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said, “Caesar’s.”  And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”  Luke 21:7-9

Jesus asked the scribes and the priests who were asking him question after question trying to trip him up; “why do you test me?” We are no better than they are when we are seeking for Him to give us a sign telling us that He is real. We know He is real, we have scriptures that show us, but we see people all the time on social media posts saying “Like if you love, believe, etc, Jesus” I have to ask what good is it to show someone a fake cloud formation and tell them you love God? To me it says; “Look this gimmick someone created and claimed it was real is like God to me.” If this is what you perceive your God to be like; someone who gives lame pictures as signs then you may not be following the right god!
The Holy Spirit will give us the identification of what is of God, who is of God and what to do with the information He gives us.
It does not always make sense to those who hear or see it but God has a plan and He will reveal His light in our darkness as He directs us through our lives, in His time.

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.  As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise    and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.  So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.  Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.  It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.  So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say its all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.  This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength. Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you.  Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.  God chose things despised by the world  things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
We are given the scriptures, what we should know is clearly written in our own languages.  We are given the Holy Spirit to make it clear for us, why do we second guess His meaning?
If a baby smells we know that it is time to change the diaper, we do not need to look for signs and wonders.
When Jesus comes again the Bible, the Word of God, tells us He will be seen of all men. That means we will not miss Him because the sheep, us will know our shepherd.
We cannot ‘figure out’ God. His directions are in the Word and if we study to show ourselves approved by Him, and live our lives accordingly then we will know.
When we constantly look for ‘signs and wonders’ we are like the teenagers whose parents went away and left them with the house. They partied, and carried on doing what they knew their parents would not agree with and then they are constantly looking for the car, or listening for the phone because “mom and dad” could be back any moment!  Instead they should have had the smarts to behave and not have to worry what they were doing when mom and dad got home but obedient to their rules, and guidance they would be enjoying themselves when the parents got home instead of stressing out and worrying that they will be caught unaware.
So how can we live our lives, not seeking every sign and wonder yet still know when Jesus is coming back?
-          Begin in prayer! Seek God while He may be found. (Isaiah 55:5-7 Colossians 1:9)
-          Humble yourself and lift God up. Living a life that puts God’s will first keeps us in right living with God.
-          1:Corinthians 1:18-20
-          Walk worthy of the call God has put on your life. Do not follow the people claiming to go here are there but follow God, His Holy Spirit is there to guide us.
-          Pay attention to where He has us; if we walk around with our head up looking for Him coming back in the clouds all the time we will trip over the things He has given us to work with here and now.
-          Love one another, for God is love. Focus on spreading His gospel through the scriptures not through other peoples claims; read it for yourself and get to know God personally through His Word.
When we have put on the mind of Christ we will have the Holy Spirit to let us know when He is returning. Until then live like God is coming today and share the Word, bring love, life and hope to those around you by sharing His Word.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to share Your words and trust that You will do the work that you started and that our pointing out false gods for people to worship will not bring them closer to You. Direct us as we share You with those around us. In Jesus name, amen.

Do you Stretch out in His Word ? 12-8-14

So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.  And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.  For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”
Matthew 9:19-21

She reached out and barely grabbed the hem, she did not wish to bother him as she knew he was a busy man healing and teaching, yet she knew it was what she needed in order to be healed. Her faith was so great that she knew, without a doubt, that God would heal her if she just touched a portion of Him.

The effort she put forth after twelve years bleeding, her body weak with jaundice and yet she did it. She stretched out her hand as he walked by on the roadway.
What great faith she had, to trust God to heal her. She was healed, no doubt she spoke of how God healed her, the disciples and those who saw spoke of her and today many speak of this woman’s healing in order to encourage others to reach out to God for healing and hope.
…and when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, brought to Him all who were sick,  and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well. Matthew 14:35-36
As many as touched His hem of the Lord’s garment were healed as well! What an amazing thing, today we think we have to go through hoops and rituals in order to be healed, they only had faith.
Jesus spoke in Parables to share with people the mysteries of heaven, they were told to instruct those who had been, or have been, given the insight to understand them. Not everyone was given ears to hear or eyes to see as the Bible calls it; there were some whom the blessing of hearing the Word with the heart was not given. Today even some do not hear and see what He has for us.

And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”  He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.  For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Matthew 13:10-12
We read over the Word daily, sure, but do we ingest it? Do we glean from it? Do we take what we learned, or read today and plant it that it may grow in someone else’s life?
And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.
Mark 4:26-27

How can I plant a seed of faith, of hope or of peace in someone?
By walking, living, loving in His Word!

Walk by faith, showing others by your life style how God has helped you when the roof crashes in on you.  Do not go around complaining that people are not doing what you want, trust God to find the way through to the answer and do not allow yourself to ‘stress out’ over it but instead truly walk in Him.

Live by faith- more of the above plus, read the Word with a vengeance, as thy say. Dig in and really study it out, find out what was going on in the time period and who were the people involved, write yourself a book report on each days read! Then you will know the Word, then you will be able to live it. The seeds you plant when you have the Word of God in your heart and mind will amaze even you!  When other people hear what you have been doing they will do it too! They will become the seed you planted! Its not money you need, it is God to grow your seeds of faith to help others to trust Him to provide too by you trusting God in the first place!
I speak to myself here too! I write books each year, I trust that God will sell them. I have them in book stores, name brand ones and mom and pop styles; I trust God to sell them.  I do not go into peoples faces very often and say ‘buy my books’ but occasionally I do water my seeds! I trust that my books are ‘drought tolerant’ and that they will continue to feed people and cause them to grow in Him.
Love in Him, Through us God can love those who would not hear his voice because they have not yet accepted that He is. We can love those whom we know, and those whom He has put in our path that may not be easy to love. The girl wandering through the parking lot with one baby in a stroller and another in  her belly begging for food. The young man wasted on whatever he has been taking, or drinking, and yet begging for money for his next fix.  God wants us to plant seeds there, not just money, but words of hope that will be implanted in their hearts and minds until the time for the harvest comes!
Someone did that with me, they spoke of God, the Bible stories in it etc., when I was a child. It took until I was 18 years old for me to ‘get it’ and God harvested me. Some plants grow up quickly, some take a long time. The important thing is that we sow seeds of hope and love; this time of year is easier than others to say, God bless someone while you shop.
Watch their face when you say it, pray as you walk away for them to have a super day.
Plant the seeds, trust and have faith that the hem of the garment will be enough to heal and trust God to bring about the harvest of both!
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to walk out the faith you have taught us about. Show us the daily things that You do for us that will build our faith and cause it to grow, so that we may feed others with the seeds you give us. In Jesus name, amen.

Level-Up! – In His Word 12-1-14

Level-Up! – In His Word 12-1-14

God did not give us salvation to have us accept the Truth into our lives and stay in our old man clothes. He sent His Son to us, a portion of Himself, that we would advance in the life we live and progress spiritually toward the people  He wanted for us to be in the first place. It is time to level up!

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, to the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart who being past feeling have given themselves to lewdness to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have hard Him and have been taught by Him as the truth is in Jesus; that you put off concerning your former conduct the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you will put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4: 17-24

It was not so bad in my old self, but it was lonely. Before I knew God I did not know love, neither did you.
No matter what we think our ‘old man’ or old us was a sorry person. We either thought of our selves as perfect, working our way to heaven, as Paul, or we were wallowing in the sins we created for ourselves as the Samaritan woman; either way we were walking in our sinfulness.

Once we asked, or accepted, Christ into our lives and gave God back the reigns to our lives we dropped of the scales of living the way we thought was right and chose to live in newness of life as God’s Word directs us to do.

So why do we as Christians try to be the person we were trying to be before?
Look around you in your church; it is full of people trying to be ‘cool’ or ‘proper’ or prideful or laid back.  Just like in the world people are trying to get by on their good looks, or their fancy talk or clothes. We are no different than the worldly people any more.

It is as if we accepted Christ and stayed where we were thinking everything was now okay, we could talk trash, cause its okay we are saved and God will forgive us. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us; right?

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;  the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,  to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. Titus 2:1-5

I often wonder how much pain I cause my God, my Lord and Savior, when I get prideful and think I know better than He does about a situation. I wonder if I should let people slide because they are babe’s in the Lord, or if I should teach them and admonish them as we are told in Timothy and Titus?

If we do not teach them they will never level up in Christ, spiritually.

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,  who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Titus 2:11-14
It is our job, as  those who have known and grown in Christ, to teach and to encourage the younger generation of Christians how to behave as Christians that they too may level up!
What would happen if we allowed them to stay where they were living in sin but knowing God? They could so easily be snared by the enemy of Salvation and drawn back into a backsliding life. The Bible talks of this.
You know you have seen it happen. There were two young men who came to know the Lord around the same time I did. I will call them Fred and Marty.
Fred  dug into the Word of God like he had into Disco dancing. He dressed the part, He carried his Bible everywhere. He looked like a good Christian young man. He brought his friend Marty to church where he went up and asked Jesus into his life.

Then Marty went out and started sinning again like he lived before he accepted Christ. He began to ruin other people’s view of how to behave and they followed his back sliding behavior until he left the church. When he left there was a pile up of problems to deal with to help out those who had been damaged and injured.
I can’t help but wonder if someone had truly seen through his guise of changing his life if he too may be walking with Christ today perhaps even be a powerful preacher reaching other for the kingdom? Would the damaged lives that incurred have been avoided had he been seen as a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Some say; “only God knows”, but I say we should be paying more attention to helping those babe’s in Christ to level up!

We need to mentor the younger men and woman to help them build stable support beams that they are strong enough to stand against the wiles of the devil!

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. ... Galatians 6:10-18

When we see the younger men and women who are still walking with one foot in the world, brothers and sisters in the Lord, we need to pull them up out of the gutter. Give them advice even before they ask for it. Direct them in righteous living as Christ so directs us!
How? By first of all setting a good example, not being pulled down to their level but lifting them up to ours. Help them to live a life pleasing to God, not just man. Show them the focus of their lives should not be on who they can get to like them but Whom it is that loves them and wants to level them up to be like Him. Teach them with your life.

Secondly pull them away from the clutches of the world that they would not be pulled back in.  Trust God to help you bring them up to your level,  as you level up closer to Him through study of the Word and prayer you can pull them up too!  The more you know about God, the more you know God, the more strength will be yours to teach and admonish the younger believers in Christ.
For we can do all things, really we can! For Christ will give us the strength to level up today!
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to grow more and more in You. Help us to know You more, to follow Your Word more and to grow more spiritually minded and less worldly minded. In Jesus name, amen.
