Does He even know you? In
the Word 4/28/14
I have heard many people
are going around saying they found Jesus, but Jesus was never lost so how can
they ‘find’ Him?
You may have noticed
someone say they ‘got saved’, or perhaps they were drawn to the Altar to accept
Jesus as their Savior. I wonder sometimes as I watch people return week after
week; do they even know Him? Have they prayed truthfully from the heart when
they chose to ‘follow Christ’ at the altar in their church or did they just
follow the crowd or group of friends who pulled them up there because it is
‘what we do’?
Or maybe they think they
are assured a ticket to heaven just because they have always gone to church? It
has been said that some people even thing they can get into heaven on their parents
shirt tails.
I could tell you my
testimony in a few hours time, but in a nutshell I was saved, found Christ or
accepted Him as my Savior and Lord alone in a room with just me and my God, and
my little Gideon’s New Testament Bible. Funny thing is that Bible had followed
me through half my life at that point, from 9 years of age in Canada when I
would play school and read a few lines to pretend, to 18 when I read the
directions printed in the back, decided yes I believed and signed my name after
reciting the words written. My life changed right there. I heard sky rockets,
bombs burst and rainbows were painted across the sky as little white doves flew
off into the sunset. Okay, so none of that embellishment happened really; on
the outside you could not tell that I had changed. Though one friend was told
because the Bible directions said I was to share that I had prayed the prayer
and accepted Jesus into my life with another human; I kind of kept it to myself
beyond that for a while. In fact between me and God, I grew my first year of
knowledge of Christ through reading, prayer and what the Word of God calls
meditating on the Word.
So where did that leave
me? For an hour a day and twice on Sundays I would lock myself up in my room
and study and pray and spend time in His presence as I knew it. In this first
year of my ‘walk with Christ’ I spend time getting to know Him, one on One. I
highly recommend that each person take time not just reading through the Bible
in a year but reading to know the Bible each day. Get to know the characters in
the Word. Make Paul, Saul, Jeremiah, Esther your personal associates. Know who
they were, and study everything on them and you will feel as if you are
visiting the times and places you read about each day and understanding how to
practice what they teach; what He teaches us to live in our lives each day.
What more can we do than
approach the throne of Grace the way that we know in our hearts to do so?
We know that in the Word
of God, or our Holy Bible, it tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15 to study to show
ourselves approved by God. So we know we can study, and learn from His Word.
How else can we know Him?
If we did not live when He walked among them how can we know God himself but
than to study the words in which He chose to have compiled. There is a
scripture that says all scripture is God breathed…2 Timothy 3:17, it comes from
His mouth, not just man’s fingers. Sure a scribe penned it and a speaker spoke
it and an Apostle lived it; but the Word of the Lord is right. It is produced by the Holy Spirit and in such
a way that we can understand it someone translated with God’s permission.
Today there are so many
translations we can get lost, and a few may lead some off on a tangent but if
we are truly looking for the True Word of God we will find it.
Our Lord said those who
seek me will find me when they seek for me with their whole heart. Proverbs 8
So if you are a ‘seeker’
looking for God, you can be sure you will find Him when you put your heart into
it, your whole heart!
In my studies of the Word
I came up to a point when Jesus said to some people who approached him to get
away from Him because He never knew them. He did not know them, though they
claim to have done many works in His name. He did not know them, though they
claim to have known Him.
This struck me with a bolt
of lightening type of fear in my heart and soul! I could know Him, but He must
know me to make me get that true Ticket to Heaven?
How then can I be assured that He even knows me?
How then can I be assured that He even knows me?
1-
I have
redeemed you I have called you by name, child you are mine. Isaiah 41:10 When you walk through the
water I will be there and through the flames, you will not be burned, you will
not be drowned for I am with you. He has called us to come into His presence.
He draws us by the Holy Spirit part of Him from the inside out. Its not an
outward kind of thing, but an inner draw from your heart to His.
2-
I will never
leave you nor forsake you. Jesus promised us He would never leave
us nor forsake us. He will be with us wherever we go. If this is written on
your heart as the Lord says His Words will be written on,
hidden in our hearts that when we would desire to sin against Him we could
stop.
3-
The sheep know
the shepherds voice. The Lord Jesus even said My sheep shall know
my voice. When He calls us we are drawn to Him.
When sheep are wandering they know the Shepherds voice and will come to
him.
4-
We are known
by our fruit. If you are fruitful in Christ, you are bringing others
to Christ right? Yes but also you are spending time reading and praying and worshiping with, to and for Him.
The fruits will be sweet; the flavor of your walk will be delightful when you
spend time in His presence each day.
When you have right
standing with God, you know it in your heart, soul, and mind. You just know!
When I was first saved, or
first a Christian, I found people asking me how I knew that He was real. My
answer was often, “I just know”. I had no scripture knowledge to back me up yet
as I was just beginning to really get to know the Lord and His Word; my
innocent words spoke truth that has stuck with me through 38 years and I still
feel the connection that I received the day I first believed.
Now we are taught that we
are lead by the Holy Spirit, He is who draws you into His presence. This Holy
Spirit presence is the ‘know’ in my spirit. He is the one who wrote His name on
my heart and my name in His book. There is no other way to truly know He knows
you other than truly knowing Him. Study the Word, get to know the present the
fullness, the complete Words of God. Apply them to your heart, mind, soul and
spirit.
To know the heart of Jesus
to find in His face perfect rest, and in His love the light of all direction
and hope.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the
Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined
in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus
Christ.2 Corinthians 4:5-7
Dear Heavenly Father; Oh that we would truly know you is the cry of our heart, and yet that you would reveal in us the proof that You truly know our hearts, and know our souls, and our minds is our prayer today; in Jesus name, Amen.
