I want to know Him More!
When I was a young believer I was blessed to hear a seasoned saint say that the more know the more you know that you do not know! I was only 20 and he was at least 70 so he was like the wise man who had been a missionary for years and a Bible teacher for many more. I was amazed and realized then I wanted to know God more! I wanted to learn as much as I could and spend time sitting at the feet of Jesus in prayer the way Mary did when Martha was serving the disciples and Jesus. I want to know Him more today!
To know Him is the cry of my heart, to know Him is to know peace. I that peace today as wput our focus on the one who givs us peace. Jesus Christ our Lord came so that we may know peace. I wrote yesterday about my big thing that showed me peace in the midst of circumstances. If I did not know Jesus I would not have had that peace. I would not have known the words to count it all joy when stuff like that happens if I did not read it in James 1:2
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.Phillipians 3:7-11
Here are some thoughts on this subject of knowing God.
Knowing God is knowing peace. Sometimes this is peace for a moment as the world gos topsyturvy and sometimes it is that peace that passes all understanding; yet He understands all of our needs to find peace. God will give us peace, like I wrote about yesterday when we put our mind on Him. Once again we find in today’s verses a similar thing, to focus on God to know Him more.
An other thing we hear people say is to know God is t know Love, now we know that this is because God is love, thus knowing God is litterally knowing love. We do not always understand this but if we study the Word of God the Holy spirit will help us to know the meanings that our simple minds cannot even begin to.
Still, we read that some people may think they know God and yet Jesus may say to them “Depart from me, I never knew you"
Just because we say we know Him does not mean that we really do. We have to get into the Word daily, and pray, and worship Him to stay atuned to the Holy Spirit within us. But is that enough?
For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?
And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it bak? Romans11:34-35
Surely it is! When we accept that Jesus is real we repent of our sins, and ask Him to be the Lord of our lives then we begin to change. The Word also tells us we will be known by our fruits. (see Matthew 7:16
Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3 :9-11
God knows what is real in our hearts and minds, we cannot lie to Him. So He really knows if we are ligit! He knows if we prayed the salvation prayer, whatever way we prayed it, He knows if we mean it or if we just said it because of an emotional response or pressure from our friends or loved ones. Jesus told a parable about how He will weed out those who are not really followers of Christ. So how can you know that He knows you? How can you have peace of salvation?
Know your own heart and mind. Do you truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? That is is God’s only begotten Son who came to earth to die for us so that we may be saved? Do you believe in the Word as truth?
Did you repent of your sins and continue to do so when you mess up? If these things are true of you then one more thing, askyourself how much you realy want to know Jesus?
I would prayer also ask is it enough to read, even study your Bible and learn everythign you can about Him?
Then is it enough to spend time in prayer I don’t mean the quote you learned to repeat but to really sit there, kneel, or how ever you poster yoursel in prayer, and listen for the still small voice? The voice that speaks to and through your heart and mind.
If these things create in you a desire to know Him even more, than I would say you probably know Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you in prayer and song as you spend time studying, reading, praying and worshiping. Expect something to change in your life with each read, or to learn something new!
Heavenly Father, thank you for knowing my heart today. Help me to listen to your heart song in the Word. Help me to know you more, in Jesus’ name.
