A Walk in His Word- 8-5-2024 Genesis Chapter 15:1-3
Do you ever
feel like giving up on waiting for God to provide a promised answer to you? Are
you waiting on the promises He told you He would give you? Sometimes we just
have to get in His Word to find out that we are not the only ones waiting, and
what we should do about it! Sometimes
reading the Bible slowly helps us to glean the answers we seek, the
encouragement we need, and well really great life lessons!
Abraham was
not always Abraham; he was Abram until God changed his name. God gave him a
Covenant promise that was specific just to Abram, he would be come the father
of many nations. You have probably heard or read the story before, but I want you
to read it again! You will see that you are not the only one who thinks they have
to do things to get the promise, or prayer answered by God. Even when God specifically
spelled out what He would do, Abram first believed, but then we read on, and we
find he doubted God in other areas.
The Lord’s
Covenant Promise to Abram
Sometime later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a
vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and
your reward will be great.”
But
Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t
even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a
servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so
one of my servants will be my heir.”
Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant
will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your
heir.”
Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to
him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many
descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted
him as righteous because of his faith.
Then the Lord told him, “I am the Lord who
brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your
possession.”
But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, how can
I be sure that I will actually possess it?” Genesis 15:1-8
Abraham believes,
and doubts, then believes then as you will see as you continue reading this and
the next few chapters Abram, soon to be called Abraham, doubts that God will
just make it happen, but instead thinks he has to take matters in his own hand.
He is unfaithful to God, when he has his first child, it is not the way God
tells him to do things.
Still if you keep reading you will find that God keeps His promises!
He helps so
many people that we can read the stories about in the Word of God to show us
just how truthful our God is when He says He will do something!
The faith
comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God scripture in Romans 10:17 is a
powerful reminder of how to keep believing! We need to read the Word of God,
study the Word of God, memorize the Word of God and really, really get to know how
to walk in it! Each day we need to open the app or better yet our paper Bible
and read, read, and read, bookmark it, write notes about what we read and how we
think it will encourage us or others in our lives. Then we need to share it. Tell
someone what God’s Word spoke to you about today! Don’t just keep it to yourself,
speaking the truth helps us to believe! Sometimes when we speak the Words aloud
we can feel the strength God gives us in His Word.
So go read
the rest of this chapter, but keep reading because there is so much more to
glean from Genesis than just the beginning!
In His Love,
