God
decided in these times to pour out His Spirit occasionally in the Old
Testament, but then in Pentecost He gave it to all who believed. The book of
Acts is just part of the story. Too many people seem focused on one day with
the Lord, though I do believe one day with the Lord Jesus presence would be
better than a thousand elsewhere!
So,
Moses went out and reported the Lord’s words to the people. He gathered the
seventy elders and stationed them around the Tabernacle. And the Lord came down
in the cloud and spoke to Moses. Then he gave the seventy elders the same
Spirit that was upon Moses. And when the Spirit rested upon them, they
prophesied. But this never happened again. Numbers 11: 24-25
Then,
after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your
sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your
young men will see visions. Joel 2:28
While
Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he
reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers.
“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you
believed?” he asked them.
“No,”
they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
“Then what baptism did you experience?” he
asked.
And
they replied, “The baptism of John.” Acts 19:1-3
Knowing that the Holy Spirit has been given to us, what do we do with it? If God used His Spirit to cause the Israelites to prophecy in a show of faith back then, and He used that same Spirit to indwell those who were praying together in the upper room then what will He do with and through us today?
Thoughts I am pondering today... in Jesus' name.
