Some thoughts to ponder- In His Word 10-11-2021

Do you worry about the way things are going I the world today? I mean, let’s face it there is a lot going on out there. Between boarder issues, people being jerked around for man different reasons, or anger issues around the globe; it seems like we are bound and determined to fight about things out there.

Many people are getting ‘on board’ with one issue or another. Some are wondering why bother because its all going to turn out rotten in the end anyway. I think the answers to life’s problems can be found in the Word, and prayer; it is what we choose to do with what we know that makes the difference.

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?  Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”  Matthew 6:24-26

To know what to do we need to realize that we have a God that we can trust to take care of us when we trust in Him.  We need to choose to follow Christ, follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and do the right things. We can choose to think on the right things, as I continually say, “think on these things”, think on the good stuff. Think on the God stuff!

Do not choose to follow false gods, or people who will lead us away from what God’s plan is.

“So, fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.  But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

The people replied, “We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods. Joshua 24:14-16

Don’t be like the people in Joshua 24; choose the Lord of Lords to follow. Remind yourself who is in charge.

It is easy sometimes to follow the crowd because it looks fun, or maybe we get riled up by what someone say’s and it spurs us on to join up with the wrong group. Sometimes it is harder to follow God and do the right thing, because we want to have fun in life and not be serious all the time. Right?

God’s people know how to have more fun because we do not suffer consequences of wrong choices when we make the right choice to follow His commands. When we follow the suggestions in the Word by the examples of the people who remind us to fix our eyes on things above not on earthly things.

Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Proverbs 4:24-26

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.  For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:1-3

When I read this, I think to myself; it is not a bad thing that I need to die to myself and live for Christ Jesus but a good thing. He is the one I should keep my thoughts on because if I do not worry it will be much easier to do than struggle with the world and stress about anything else but God.  When we set our mind on Him everything will work out the way it should. It may not be exactly as we hoped but He will be with us in whatever we walk through and that in itself will be comforting to know.

The truth is when we become Christians, we no long just do what we want, or we should not anyway. We should want to seek God and do what he wants for us to do.

So, how do we know this? How can we know what God’s plan is for us?

1-     It is the good thing that brings for good godly fruit. God is good.                                           Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;  for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, Philippians 2:12-14

2-     Read the Word to find direction. (maybe this should have been first?)                                            You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 You therefore must endure[a] hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.       2 Timothy 2:1-3

3-     Follow through with what His Word says to do.

Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. “These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father. In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you…

John 16:24-26

So you see, these are just some thoughts to ponder in His Word today. They are just a few thoughts, and to me they fulfill the scriptures that tell us to meditate on the Word, at least for the moment.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.            Philippians 4:6-9
