Memorial Day in His Word! 5-31-2021

Memorial day- In His Word 5-31-2021

Today in America and some other countries I think we honor those who have fallen before us in fight for our rights and freedoms. My Uncle Bill died in one of the wars and we have always thought of him as a hero.

We all have someone we know or are related to who died to give us freedom, but the One who died for all of us was the most important of all. Jesus would have gotten a Purple Heart! Or rather He should be given one; He gave His life for all of us.

Today's blog will be a short post but not because of nothing to say but because I want to give you all a chance to think on these things...They died so that we could live a better life, so let's not make thier deaths be in vain.

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:12-14

Jesus would be the first to tell us not to morn them today but to think of the good things we an do to honor them. We can then enjoy the peace, the freedoms and the rights that our family member and ancestors died to save and give us. It won't be honorable if we weep and morn constantly about it, but God would rather we take on the peace that Jesus gave us with the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. He wanted us to rejoice that He died that we may live eternally with Him.

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:7-9

So, as you celebrate the beginning of Summertime fun, and gathering together, remember that we have this because someone in History made it possible.  Take a moment of thanks to God for their honorable deaths, but more so thank God that Jesus died so that we could truly be free.  Not just in our countries for eternity.

Happy Memorial Day!
