Advent Reading ~In His Word ~December 8, 2020
As we search for just the right gift to give it can be daunting
or depressing if we cannot get what we want for the people we love. Sometimes it
is the people themselves that are the issue we have to get over in searching
for the gift. We find them too picky, or too selfish in their desires and in
this we can become jaded by our attitude when we purchase or even create
something that is beyond our means or abilities.
God has the perfect gifts.
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So, if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:6-8
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and
turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of
your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is
to you, to your children, and to those far away all who have been called by the
Lord our God.” Acts 2:38-39
There is a song called “The Gift Goes on” that we used to
sing a lot but lately I have not heard it. I believe Sandy Patty sang it. It gives
us the reminder that God gave us Jesus, life, and love and we need to share
those with others. Today let’s remember God’s love to us in His son. Let’s be
like the Shepherds and spread the good news that Jesus loves them today!
Let us share Peace, love, Joy and Hope with those around us
today! Tell someone that Jesus is alive, and He loves them, that God sent His
son to take on the suffering so that we do not have to. That we might have life
and have it more abundantly!
Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the
armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and
peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” When the angels had returned to heaven,
the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let us see this thing
that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Luke 2:14-15
As my 3 year old son once said “The word of the Lord is right, and you, you should know about God, you should love Him, make Him be in your heart!” in Jesus’ name…
