Looking back to look forward... In His Word 10-26-2020

A long time ago we learned to hold on to faith. We learned to trust God to bring us through things we are going through and out the other side. Many people are worried about this season we are about to go into, that it will be a struggle bus to get through. I think this rerun of In His Word will be good to encourage us all to keep going! Let's get around the rocks! Lets hold on to the Rock right now and not get caught up in the cares of this world but instead focus on God.

Hold on! In His Word-11-7-16

Back in the day when my husband and I were working at Morning Star Outreach camp here in California we volunteered as camp counselors to help with the inner-city youth program. During the week at camp the kids had many adventures; one year we were blessed with a river raft trip! The one thing I remember while rolling through the rapids in the boat was to hold on tight with the oars and with our feet!
If we kept a firm grip we did not have to worry that we would flip out and float away.
If we had a paddle we could just keep on paddling the direction the head person would shout out to us. We had to hold on, pay attention and keep our balance in order to remain safe.

In life we have to do the same; we have to hold on to our faith, we have to keep our feet planted securely on the Rock of our Salvation, and we have to keep our live flowing the right direction like the paddles.
Sometimes we had to back paddle to prevent our hitting a rock; in life there are times we need to pull to a screeching stop and back paddle in order to keep our path straight on with Jesus.
There had to be interaction in the boat to keep us flowing correctly, and in the same way in life we must be around other believers, and keep our eyes and ears open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit as He shouts “Back paddle Back paddle!” in His Word!

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
 Hebrews 10:23-25

Things are changing all around us; new leadership in the country and in the church; every day there is something new and yet the Word of God says that nothing is new under the sun.

History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Ecclesiastes 1:9

Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:14
There was a purpose to the words used and we were to stay attentive to the leader and as we did we were blessed with reaching a calm space to rest, eat lunch and then return to float the rest of the way down the river.
In our Christian Walk we also need to realize there is a time to rest in His plan and that we need to just walk in it sometimes with out knowing why.
I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he comes to set up his Kingdom: 2   preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.  will reject the truth and chase after myths. 5  But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. 2 Timothy 4:1-5
If we pay attention, if we get prepared, we will walk in His will and all will be well in the boat. In order to pay attention we need to be, in His Word to know for yourself what it is all about; read your Bible and pray every day and you will see what to do next. Oh, and gee the thing we do to get prepared for our day is to pray and read our Bible! Look at that!
1-     Read your Bible first thing, and pray for understanding
2-     Pray and pray some more about everything you can think of! Thank Him for His goodness!
3-     Listen to the preachers, the Bible study teachers, and those put in charge over you. Be obedient to laws in your land, vote for the people you feel lead to vote for; not just because you feel like it but because His Word actually talks about it!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us direction in Your Word. Help us to be strong in you and to hold on tight in the rapids of life! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
