Dailies~ in His
Word
May 2019
The first time I won a memory verse contest was when I was about
30 years old. I used to try to live up to what everyone else could do. I tried
to remember the scripture verses to everything but for the most part, I could
only remember the verse, not the address.
I
have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ
lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
I
learned this scripture at a young adults Bible Study group, sort of like a life
group today. I was the last one in the group to learn it, and it was embarrassing
to be the only one who could not do it. Then it finally happened! I got
it! I felt good enough to be in the
group, kind of. You see I tried to compare myself to everyone else and be as
good as them… I had not started my walk that way. I don’t know why it bothered
me so much that I could not remember where things were found but it all came to
an end when I read something Jesus said.
But
He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from
the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4
Jesus does not say where it is written, five times in Matthew
alone He said “It is written”. Reading
this and realizing that I only had to stand up to Christ’s example meant so
much to me!
I cannot hold my standard up to other people my standard must
be God! I will follow Christ and do as
the Word of God says. In Jesus’ name!
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us such a great example
of how to live, in Jesus Christ, and for the directions for our lives in Your
Word. In Jesus name, amen.
