Greater things…In His Word
9-3-18
Jesus
talks to us in John 14 about greater things that we can do if we just believe
in Him and follow after Him. I was reading about that and I realized that this
chapter is for the strong Christian because its not for babes. It is some good
‘meat’ for the seasoned believer. Or, grown up teaching…
So let us go on to grown-up
teaching. Let us not go back over the beginning lessons we learned about
Christ. We should not again start teaching about faith in God and about turning
away from those acts that lead to death. We
should not return to the teaching about baptisms, about laying on of hands,
about the raising of the dead and eternal judgment. And we will go on to grown-up teaching if God allows.
Hebrews 6:1-3
Step by step it is an amazing sermon and if we remember the whole
thing and not just this last little bit... We will be strong and mighty in His
power and His might!
I was struck amazed and in awe by the fact that God put this all
together in one chapter, it is full of what to do information! If we read
nothing else in the Word of God we could still know what to do in life as
Christ followers!
And it ends in the most important things...
He is doing as the father said, He has over come the world and
then He says... Come now, let us go!
I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this
world is coming. He has no power over me, 31 but the world must know
that I love the Father, so I do exactly what the Father told me to do.
“Come now, let us go. John 14:30 12
He gave us all such juicy meaty information to rule our lives and
then says "come on, let’s go..." not you go on now... not I have to
go now... but come on... let’s go! He did not fill us up then set us on our way
alone....
He wants us to know He is walking in it whatever it is that we
walk through or into He is leading us and going through it together with us. We just need to ask Him to do the greater things with us! Yet we
always complicate it!
I tell you the truth, whoever believes in me will do the
same things that I do. Those who believe will do even greater things than
these, because I am going to the Father. And if you ask for anything
in my name, I will do it for you so that the Father’s glory will be shown
through the Son. If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it. John
14:12-14
Honestly people! That’s what Jesus is saying here… “Dude! You can
do it too! Even more! If you believe it if you believe Me… you know? “
“If you love me, you
will obey my commands. I will
ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you
forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it does
not see him or know him. But you know him, because he lives with you and he
will be in you. “I will not leave you
all alone like orphans; I will come back to you. In a
little while the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I
live, you will live, too. On
that day you will know that I am in my Father, and that you are in me and I am
in you. Those who know my
commands and obey them are the ones who love me, and my Father will love those
who love me. I will love them and will show myself to them.” John 14:15-21
The
Helper, or the Holy Spirit, sticks with us and helps us to understand, to pray,
to encourage when we feel worn out He is the part of God that stays with us
daily.
He
directs us in when it is time to pray for other people, He walks with us
through healing prayer and strengthening prayers and even through the times
when the prayer does not bring the healing we desire.
So how do we get to the
point that we are no longer wandering like babes looking for what is pleasing
to the eye and taste?
But, beloved, we are
confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany
salvation, though we speak in this manner. For God is not unjust to
forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His
name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do
minister. And we desire that
each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope
until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate
those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:9-12
Keep on pressing in and
pressing on; get in the Word, get in your time in prayer Spend TAWG time daily,
not just when you are at church. Get on your knees when you can and humble
yourself before the Lord.
Talk to God daily like you do
your spouse or best friend; get to know God like you get to know anyone; spend
quality time with Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, draw us
nearer to You that we may truly know you and walk not only in Your steps but
believe and do those ‘greater things’ that you have promised that we too can do
in Jesus name, amen.
