Preach it! In the Word 8-31-15
When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they
were indignant. But Jesus called them together and said, “You know
that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt
their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a
leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but
to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:24-28
Shortly after Jesus spoke
these words it is written that He healed a bunch of blind people even though he
and his disciples were on their way to someplace else He had compassion on them
and touched their eyes and they could see. He did not just speak what we should
do but he did it. How much more should we do? We read, sing and talk about
reaching the ‘Lost’ for Christ and yet what do we do? How often do we reach out
and touch those around us?
What is it that slows you
from reaching out to those around you and sharing the Gospel of Christ? Is it
the fact you don’t feel called to preach? Or is it because you think you are inadequate?
Maybe you are in the category of just plain never thought of it?
Imagine this scenario; You
are in a life boat as the cruise ship you were on is sinking. You somehow ended
up being the only one in that boat, around you in the water are people
splashing and attempting to stay afloat and a live. As you see them floundering
you wonder why they just jumped into the water instead of following directions
and getting into the life boat as you did.
Do you toss them a life
preserver and reach out to help as many as you can fit into your boat or do you
just sit there thinking they should figure it out on their own?
As Christians we are in the
life boat already; we were pulled in when we accepted Christ as our Lord and
Savior; our God supplied the life boat.
As human beings it is the
right thing to do to bring in as many as we can into the life boat; Salvation.
And
then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
Mark 15:16
For some of us this seems
second nature, and in fact it should be for all who believe in the Lord Jesus
Christ, but for some reason many people believe but do nothing to bring others
into the Kingdom
of God until they are
encouraged to do so. If we are daily in
the Word of God seeking His direction for how to do His will in each of our
lives we would know that God told us to go. What more encouragement do we need?
That
ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every
good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:10
But suppose we seek to be made right with God
through faith in Christ and then we are found guilty because we have abandoned
the law. Would that mean Christ has led us into sin? Absolutely not! Rather, I am a sinner if I rebuild the old system of law I already
tore down. For when I
tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying
to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My
old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ
lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave himself for me. I
do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make
us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. Galatians
2:17-21
In order to walk right with
God, my Bible tells me I need to be obedient to His will. In order to be
walking in His will I must be doing the things the Bible tells me that Jesus
said to do. He told us in His own words, with Jesus’ mouth; to go to all the
world and preach the gospel. Would we rather disobey God than be comfortable
with sharing the Word?
Maybe it is just me but I do
not see where it says, “get comfortable with yourself and feel good about it
then go share salvation with those around you”. We are to study, then share.
Receive and then release to
those around us, in our path on the same journey with us or wherever we go we
are to share Jesus.
If we follow these steps it
should come easy!
Read the Bible
Pray for God’s discernment
and understanding of His word and the will of God.
Share it with someone you
talk to today.
Then you are standing,
walking, and living the will of God for you.
So what are you waiting for?
Toss the preserver to someone! Stop them from drowning in life itself.
Dear Heavenly Father, help
us to help others into the boat of Salvation. Open our mouths to share Your
word and guide our steps to be where you want us to reach out to help someone
to find you today. In Jesus’ name amen.
