Are You Walking in His Will? In His Word 5-18-15
Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. 1 Thessalonians 4:1
We are told in the
Word to live Godly lives and according to His will; but how can we know the
will of God if we do not first know Him?
We cannot! We must first get to know the Lord God who
created the world and the life we live, and then we may get to know what His
Will is.
How do we know God?
We know according to 1
John 4 that if we love, truthfully love one another then we know Him; because
God is love.
If we put the
scriptures in simple terms we know God by the spirit, our soul knows Him. We
get to know Him via prayer and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit to seek to
find Him. Once we find out who He is then we ‘get acquainted with Him’ by
prayer from our heart to His. Some people call this “asking Him into our hearts”
but really it is accepting that He is God, and allowing Him to direct our path
with our permission and our servitude. In other words; when we pray and accept
Christ we are accepting that we believe in Him.
So once we decide this
we know Him, as an acquaintance, but we do not want to stop there! Once we have
met it the desire to know Him more should grow! I know when I found out who
Jesus was I wanted to know what he did, where he went, what he thought about
things. The only way I could find this out was to read my Bible. It is His
Story after all. The more I read, the more I wanted to know! It seemed that the
more I read about Jesus’ life on earth I found more things to learn about Him
that referred to the Older History portion of the Bible. The Word of God tells
us, shows us and in actual words what the will of God is for our lives. We are
to do the purpose He sent us here to do; share the love of God with others, and
tell them His story that we would have life and more abundant life than we can
imagine.
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do
you love Me?”
And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I
love You.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed
My sheep. John
21:17
Okay,
so we need to know Him first to know what His will is toward us. Then we need
to know His Word to know what to do with that will, or the other way around
because they really go hand in hand. To know God you must know His Word, if you
know His Word you will know that perfect will of God toward you. In the mean
time we need to pray. Pray for one another that we will know the heart will of
Jesus and find in the love of God that it is enough; perfect rest. Peace is in
the perfect rest.
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear
the Lord your
God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul, Deuteronomy 10:12
Insert your name where it says Israel ; you
will know what he Lord requires of you. When you know what He requires then you
will know His will.
To
seek Him, to serve Him by loving one another to live according to His direction
and his commands; loving God and one another are the most important commands.
So walking in His will is walking in His love.
Everyone
has a walk, the path we choose to follow and the question we are looking at
today is how do we know we are following God’s path for us and not just doing
what we think is right for us?
Choose- to walk in His will. Make the choice to follow
Jesus. Joshua 24:15
Pray- because many will think they are following
Jesus but will only be self seeking, doing things for what they think they will
get out of it. God says to pray, he gives us direction in ‘the Lord’s prayer’
also in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Seek- the Word of God, daily reading His instruction
book will show us what we need to know, what we need to do in pretty much every
situation. Pretty much. Proverbs 8:17
Do- do the Word! Do what it says. Love one another,
be kind to one another, help one another, feed the poor, care for the orphans…
the list goes on and could be heavy to carry out. Our lives only cross so much
in the way that we can help. If you see the need and have the means you can
fulfill the need.
For all people walk each in the name of his god, But we will walk in the name of the Lord our
God Forever and ever. Micah 4:5
He condemned sin in the flesh that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled
in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on
the things of the flesh, but those who live according
to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death,
but to be spiritually minded is life
and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity
against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8 1-8
Walk In His Will, walk
in His love, walk in His Spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father;
show us Your will, Your direction, Your love, Your path then give us the
courage, and the strength to follow them. In Jesus name, amen.
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel
of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means, now at last I
may find a way in the will of God to come to you. Romans 1:9-10
