Watching and waiting -in the
Word 3/16/15
Some times I like
to watch the people around me go about life. I know that may sound creepy but I
am a people watcher because it helps me to write characters into different stories.
Sometimes I am blessed to see family reunions other times I see someone
standing and waiting for someone who seems never to come.
Sometimes we may
think Jesus will never come again, life is long and tiring and we must go through
so many things in our lives. I would be easy to slack off in our walk and not
do the things that we know God would have us do. We are like the person waiting to see the
loved one who is arriving in town today. They check the door in case someone
knocked, check their texts in case they missed a message and then just as they
begin to think the time will never arrive there they are!
I can recall the
day that my husband came back from the Persian Gulf
in the first year of our marriage. We watched for our ship to come around the
breakwater, and then rushed to the dock where they would come in all the while watching
the lines of sailors standing on the deck of the ship. One of them was my
husband! I was so excited even though I could not tell which one from the
distance I knew he was near. My heart pounded with the desire to hold him in my
arms again! The ship finally docked and
the permission to board was given. It
was crazy! Swarms of parents, friends, wives and children were pushing through
to get to their sailors who had come home after 6 months at sea. When I finally
spotted my husband I wanted to climb over the crowd to get him I had missed him
so much.
That is how I
think it will be when Jesus returns. We will see Him, we will want to be there
right with him so much that all obstacles will vanish and not matter because
the most important thing will be to be in His presence.
That is also how
we should be with our Bible reading time. We should so desire to be in the
presence of His Word that we put aside anything that hinders us from doing so.
We should forget the laundry, the dishes and the clock ticking and listen to, or
read the Word of God each day. What a great way to get your thought process in order
by listening or read the Word in the early hours of the day.
If I forget or
put aside the plans to read first thing I find I have less fruit in my day. I
have a better attitude as well when I have put the right ‘food’ in my mind and
heart first thing. Maybe it works better
for you to read before heading off to bed; whatever works get into the word.
If we do not know
the Word then we will not be able to truly know the Lord. After all He is the Word.
(John 1:1)
So get into the
Word of God today so you will be found ready and waiting for Christ to return.
“But of that day
and hour no one knows, not even the angel in heaven, nor the Son, but only the
Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. It is
like a man going to a far country who left his house and gave authority to his
servants, and to each of his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Mark
13:32-34
“Then if anyone
tells you ‘Look here is the Messiah’ or ‘There
he is,’ don’t believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up
and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive if possible even God’s chosen
ones. Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time! Mark 13:21-23
Dear
Heavenly Father, We want to know you more because we want to be ready when you
return; help us to study your Word by reading it daily, in Jesus name, amen.
