Listen in His Word

Listen in His Word 9-1-14

Do you read over your Bible verses of the day each morning, or night? Do you hear what the Spirit is saying to you? God did not breathe out the words that we read to just be another book. In order to understand the words, we must hear them with our hearts not just our ears. In order to really get anything in the Word we must know the Lord who breathed it.
That brings us to another point, did God breathe the Word or is He breathing it still daily as often as you read it? I believe it is breathed into our very souls each time we open it to read with a mind of Christ.

Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others.  For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:15-16
But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 10:15-17
So then the ‘thing’ or rather the Person who speaks, or breathes the Word to our hearts and mind is indeed the Lord. We can only hear and understand what He says in His Word, our Bible, because He has made the Holy Spirit available to us to connect the dots so to speak.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
There in is our faith made truth. When we hear the Word with our hearts, and our minds we have faith to believe what the Spirit is saying to us.
When I first started reading the Bible, a Gideon’s New Testament to be exact; I did not yet have the faith to believe, or so I thought. I believed that God was real, but I did not know Him personally. I read through my New Testament vigorously trying to find out who He was, and what I needed to be able to go to heaven some day. That was my goal in reading, to study and in that study I rightly divided the word in truth! I could not have done that had I not the wisdom of the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart and mind. He was directing my path to understanding so that I may make the right choice to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved!
I heard the Word in my heart, and in that alone did I become directed as to what to do. I followed the directions to pray and wrote in the date, but I did not stop then. I did not say okay I am finished, I said “There must be more!” I sought out my parent’s ‘Wedding Bible’. Though it was hard cover and difficult to hold I read it daily to hear what the Spirit was saying to me. I did not realize as of yet that I had a Holy Spirit guide, but I did realize that I was hungry for the Word! I spent hours devouring and deciding if I ‘believed’ what I was reading. I was amazed when the Word was opened to me in a way that I had not realized it could be; Jesus was in the Old Testament! I could see the signs that pointed the Israelite people

to Him, but they missed him. Well, many of them did. The point is we need to keep our hearts and minds open to the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit will guide us and give us the ears to hear and the eyes to see what He is telling us that is relevant to our lives today.
We just need to listen with our heart and we will truly hear the Spirit sing! Just like the song, yes. He will speak to our hearts and minds and souls if we but listen for His voice. Even the still small voice.
Can you do that today? Let’s make that our challenge for September; to listen with our hearts.
Whoever has ears let them hear. Matthew 11:15

“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Luke 14:34-35

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to listen with our ears, our hearts, our mind and our souls today. In Jesus name, amen.
